A method (and system) is provided obtaining an adapted calibration transformation for whole slide imaging, wherein the adapted calibration transformation is for outputting the color of an empty area of the slide in a whole slide image, WSI, as a desired color. The method comprises first receiving a color target WSI in a device-dependent color space, wherein the color target WSI is a WSI of a color target from a scanner represented in the device-dependent color space. The color target contains at least a white patch and three (near) primary color patches. A calibration transformation is obtained for transforming the device-dependent color space to a device-independent color space. A chromatic adaptation transformation is derived using the color of the white patch in the device-dependent color space, the color of the empty (glass) area in the device-independent color space and the desired empty (glass) color in the target color space. An adapted calibration transformation is obtained by applying the chromatic adaptation transformation to the calibration transformation.

Method and system for whole slide imaging

The present invention relates to digital pathology. In order to provide an improved handling of probes in digital pathology, a slide-holder () for digital pathology is provided that comprises a tray basis (), a plurality of mounting means () and a plurality of slide-holder registration points (). The tray basis is configured to carry a plurality of slides () to be imaged by a digital pathology system, for which the tray basis provides a plurality of slide-receiving positions. The plurality of mounting means are arranged on the tray basis to mount the plurality of slides on the tray basis in a plurality of slide-receiving positions to image each slide in a separate imaging position. The slide-holder registration points comprise a plurality of interacting portions () that provide a mechanical registration of the tray basis with a digital pathology system for each of the imaging positions.

The present invention relates to an illustration of an annotation () at a sample slide (). It is the intention for the invention to copy the annotation () provided at a reference slide () to the sample slide (). Typically, a reference image () of the reference slide () is provided, in particular by scanning the reference slide (). The reference image () therefore has the information about a reference slice () which is carried by the reference slide (). In particular, the sample slice () has been cut directly after a cut of a material block has been preformed to provide the reference slice (). Since the reference slice () and the sample slice () are from the same object (), their features are very likely that the reference image () and the sample image () are very similar. Due to this similarity, the annotation () of the reference slide () is copied on a basis of an image recognition between reference image () and the sample image () to the sample slide ().

A method for registration of images of tissue slices comprises: receiving a first image of a first tissue slice and a second image of a second tissue slice, both tissue slices being prepared from the same tissue block; determining an unreliable area in the first image showing folded tissue; and registering the first image and the second image by registering an area of the first image and the second image outside of the unreliable area.

The present invention relates to a system for generating a synthetic 2D image with an enhanced depth of field of a biological sample. It is described to acquire () with a microscope-scanner () first image data at a first lateral position of the biological sample and second image data at a second lateral position of the biological sample. A method for registration of images of tissue slices comprises: receiving a first image () of a first tissue slice () and a second image () of a second tissue slice (), both tissue slices being prepared from the same tissue block (); determining an unreliable area () in the first image () showing folded tissue (); and registering the first image () and the second image by registering an area of the first image and the second image outside of the unreliable area.

An apparatus (MDS) and related method for image processing. The apparatus includes a multi-modal matcher (M). The matcher (M) operates to match a first reference (RF) image against a stream (LF) of image frames (F, F). Once a match is found, the current reference image (RF) is exchanged for a matching frame from the stream.
