A human machine interface (HMI) system controls operation of a graphical user interface (GUI) being displayed on a display located in a vehicle. The HMI system includes an interface device, an interface operation module, and a device selection module. The interface device is operable to control the GUI and includes a knob member and a touchpad. The interface operation module receives input data from the interface device in response to an operation of the interface device. The device selection module designates at least one of the knob member or the touchpad as an active device based on a device selection criteria. The interface operation module transmits data from an active device to a display module controlling the GUI and disregards data from an inactive device.

A method and implementation for detecting and characterizing audible transients in noise includes placing a microphone in a desired location, producing a microphone signal wherein the microphone signal is indicative of the acoustic environment, processing the microphone signal to estimate the acoustic activity that takes place in the human auditory system in response to the acoustic environment, producing an excitation signal indicative of the estimated acoustic activity, processing the excitation signal to identify each impulsive sound frequency-dependent activity as a function of time, producing a detection signal indicative of audible impulse sounds, processing the detection signal to identify an audible impulsive sound, and characterizing each impulsive sound.

Air/fuel ratio of an internal combustion engine is controlled by predicting the air charge to enter the engine two cylinder events into the future and then determining the amount of fuel to be injected to achieve a desired air/fuel ratio. A first fuel pulse is injected, and if needed, a second fuel pulse is injected to achieve the needed amount of fuel for the desired air/fuel ratio.

Dynamic fuel control

A mass airflow based control system is provided for an internal combustion engine including a throttle body and an air bypass valve. The system comprises a processor for determining a first value equal to predicted air charge inducted into the engine through the throttle valve, and includes memory for storing an initial value of a ratio of predicted current air charge inducted into the engine to predicted peak air charge capable of being inducted into the engine. The processor determines a second value equal to predicted air charge inducted into the engine through the air bypass valve based on the initial value, and determines a third value equal to predicted peak air charge capable of being inducted into the engine. The processor further determines an actual value of the ratio of predicted current air charge inducted into the engine to predicted peak air charge capable of being inducted into the engine based on the first, second and third values.
