A programming model allows application programmers to extract Web services from various types of resources. The programming model defines relationships between various resource types and methods for each resource type to extract a Web service or another linked resource. The programming model also provides caching capability to store previously extract resources for future requests.

An extensible software framework is used for the development and customization of XML based Web service deployment descriptors. The framework may provide for the mapping and synchronization of XML data fragments in the XML files to user interface components, resulting in an interface that can be used for the development and customization of the Web service configuration. This mechanism may allow concurrent read and write accesses to the XML based Web service deployment descriptors. The mechanism may be extensible, providing for the mapping between the user interface and the XML data fragments to be customized. Additional extensibility may come from the ability of the framework to readily accommodate the situation where the complete configuration of the Web service is described in multiple XML files. The resulting editor may present one unified display of all of the information across multiple files.

Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to scenario testing of an application under test and provide a method, system and computer program product for enhanced scenario testing. In one embodiment of the invention, a scenario testing data processing system can include an action recorder configured to activate each of recording and playback sessions in an application user interface. The system also can include an application communicatively coupled to the action recorder and the content browser. The application can include one or more controllers, each controller corresponding to one of the sessions. Finally, the system can include an action engine disposed in each of the controllers, each action engine including program code enabled both to create and execute actions based upon requests received in a recording session for interactions in the application user interface, and also to create and execute actions based upon action descriptors in a playback file identified during a playback session in the application user interface.
