Devices have a movable roller, a fixed-position roller contacting the movable roller to form an exit nip transporting planar media, biasing members operatively connected to the movable roller, and adjusters contacting the movable roller. Such devices are connectable to a first machine or a second machine. Contact areas of the first machine hold the adjusters in a first position to position the movable roller in a position resulting in the exit nip transporting the planar media in a first exit direction. The second machine instead has void areas positioned to allow movement of the adjusters to position the movable roller in a position resulting in the exit nip transporting the planar media in a second exit direction different from the first exit direction.

Self-setting exit roll assembly

A method and apparatus for preventing excess spin of idler rollers after a sheet of paper or other media has passed a media guide with the idler rollers including a retard function within plastic idler rollers. The retard function is provided by adding a retard flexure molded into the idler roller. This adds a brake which stops excess over spin of the idler rollers.

A booklet maker having a first crease device forming a folded edge on a set of sheets. A second crease device is disposed downstream along a booklet processing path from the first crease device. The second crease device includes an edge engaging mechanism translatable in a direction transverse to the path of booklet travel. The edge engaging mechanism is compressively engagable with the folded edge of a booklet for forming a crease in the booklet.

Embodiments described herein include as apparatus for folding printed sheets. The apparatus including first crease roller and a second crease roller longitudinally aligned with the first crease roller. A spacing device separating the first and second crease rollers to form a nip space therebetween. A crease blade is disposed adjacent the nip space and adapted to urge the sheets toward the nip space.

An apparatus for transporting processed sheets within a printing device. The apparatus includes a compiler including a slot for receiving the processed sheets. The slot is defined at least in part by a paper guide. An elevator is in operative communication with the compiler. The elevator includes a stop for supporting the processed sheets and a drive mechanism for moving the stop and processed sheets supported thereby between a plurality of positions. The stop has a first position for initially receiving the processed sheets. The stop is movable from the first position in a generally upward direction to a second position for breaking adhesion between a processed sheet and the paper guide. The stop is movable in a generally downward direction from the second position to a third position.

A flexible blade for use in a paddle wheel drive element is disclosed. This flexible blade, usually made from rubber or other flexible materials is horizontally split into two sections to provide reduced audible noise when the blade contacts and moves paper sheets.

A print media sheets trailing edge knockdown stacking assistance system, in a compiler or other stacking system with a substantial sheet gravity drop, activated for each ejected sheet to move substantially linearly and perpendicularly downwardly from above, but adjacent to, the sheet ejection position to engage a sheet end area and rapidly push it down towards the underlying stack of sheets and into engagement with any sheet compiling device, then automatically rapidly reciprocally lifting up out of the way above the sheet ejection position before another sheet is ejected, without any significant pause between its up and down movements.

High speed vertical reciprocating sheet trail edge stacking assistance system

An apparatus for stacking, registering and attaching one or multiple sets of electrophotographic printing machine output. The copy sheets are discharged from the machine and fall into an inclined compiling tray and are longitudinally registered by flexible, endless belts contacting the top surface of each sheet. Each sheet is then laterally shifted by a tamping mechanism which has upwardly flared baffle to corrugate the sheet as it is shifted to increase the sheet beam strength and facilitate easier and more complete registration. The discharge nip assembly which includes the flexible belts is vertically adjustable either based on discharged sheet count or in response to feedback from a stack height sensor so as to maintain optimum contact by the endless registration belt and allow for high capacity compiling. The compiling tray can also be adjustable. Once a complete set of sheets has been discharged and fully registered the stack is then attached by stapling or other means and is discharged from the compiling tray. The discharge nip and compiling tray then return to their home position to accept the next set of copy sheets.
