Biodegradable magnesium alloy implantable medical devices are protected to delay onset of corrosion, and thus biodegradability, or to corrode more uniformly. The protection allows for extended effective use of the devices while maintaining biodegradability. Examples of protective coatings include conversion coatings that at least partially remove exposed second phases from a surface of the magnesium alloy and coatings that provide a barrier between water and the surface of the magnesium alloy.

Protected magnesium alloys for bioresorbable stents

A packaging system is disclosed for shipping a prosthetic tissue valve in a storage solution and preparing and loading of the bioprosthetic valve onto a catheter-based delivery system. The packaging system includes a fluid tight container filled with the storage solution attached to a delivery catheter, wherein the container surrounds the prosthetic tissue valve that is in a pre-loaded position on the delivery catheter during shipment and storage. The prosthetic tissue valve may include an attachment mechanism that attaches to the delivery catheter to properly position the tissue valve for loading within the delivery catheter. In another embodiment where the prosthetic tissue valve is not attached to the delivery catheter during shipment, the attachment mechanism may interact with the prosthetic tissue valve shipping container to prevent the bioprosthetic valve from moving during shipment.

Packaging systems for percutaneously deliverable bioprosthetic valves

A percutaneous stented valve delivery device including an inner shaft, a sheath, and a delivery capsule. The sheath slidably receives the inner shaft. A capsule proximal zone is attached to the sheath. A capsule distal zone is configured to transition between normal and flared states. A diameter of the distal zone is greater in the flared state, and the capsule includes a shape memory component that naturally assumes the normal state. The device is operable to perform a reversible partial deployment procedure in which a portion of the prosthesis is exposed distal the capsule and allowed to radially expand. Subsequently, with distal advancement of the capsule, the distal zone transitions to the flared state and imparts a collapsing force onto the prosthesis, causing the prosthesis to radially collapse and become recaptured within the delivery capsule. The capsule can include a laser cut tube encapsulated by a polymer.

Stented transcatheter prosthetic heart valve delivery system and method

The perivascular leak repair system, and method of using the same, of the present invention provides a sealant reservoirwith a repair catheteroperably attached; a flow control devicedisposed between the sealant reservoirand the repair catheter, and the flow control deviceresponsive to a flow control signal; a heart phase detectorgenerating a diastole phase signal; an injection switchgenerating a injection signal; and a flow controllerresponsive to the diastole phase signaland the injection signal, and generating the flow control signal. A method of sealing a perivascular leak comprises identifying the perivascular leak; inserting a repair catheter to the perivascular leak; injecting sealant at the perivascular leak; and removing the repair catheter. The sealant can be injected when the heart is in diastole to sweep the sealant into the perivascular leak.

Perivascular leak repair system

The perivascular leak repair system, and method of using the same, of the present invention provides a sealant reservoir with a repair catheter operably attached; a flow control device disposed between the sealant reservoir and the repair catheter, and the flow control device responsive to a flow control signal; a heart phase detector generating a diastole phase signal; an injection switch generating a injection signal; and a flow controller responsive to the diastole phase signal and the injection signal, and generating the flow control signal. A method of sealing a perivascular leak comprises identifying the perivascular leak; inserting a repair catheter to the perivascular leak; injecting sealant at the perivascular leak; and removing the repair catheter. The sealant can be injected when the heart is in diastole to sweep the sealant into the perivascular leak.

A method of manufacturing a stent includes forming a stent blank including a predetermined alloy composition, the alloy composition including at least base element and at least one sacrificial element and forming a stent framework from the stent blank. The method further includes removing at least a portion of the sacrificial element and forming at least one pore based on the removal. A method of manufacturing a vascular treatment system includes forming a stent blank including a predetermined alloy composition including at least one base element and at least one sacrificial element. The method further includes forming a stent framework and removing at least a portion of the sacrificial element. The method also includes forming at least one pore based on the removal, bending the stent framework to a delivery shape, and attaching the bent stent framework including the formed pores to a catheter.

Method of manufacturing a controlled porosity stent

A drug elution stent includes a stent framework and a drug elution portion disposed on the stent framework. The drug elution portion includes a first sugar layer disposed on the stent framework, at least one therapeutic agent layer disposed on the first sugar layer and a second sugar layer disposed on the at least one therapeutic agent layer. A method of manufacturing a drug elution stent includes the steps of providing a stent having a stent framework and coating at least a portion of the stent framework with a drug elution portion. The drug elution portion includes a first sugar layer disposed on the stent framework, at least one therapeutic agent layer disposed on the first sugar layer and a second sugar layer disposed on the at least one therapeutic agent layer.

Drug eluting medical device and method

An implantable device coating system method includes providing the implantable device having an exterior surface, the exterior surface including a plurality of pores in fluidic communication with an ambient environment. The method further includes applying a coating including a therapeutic solution to the exterior surface and the pores, and vibrating the implantable device with a sonic wave for a predetermined time using at least one predetermined frequency.

Implantable device coating system and method

A bioresorbable endoluminal prosthesis for placement in a body lumen having a stent substrate of a first metallic material that has a lower electrical potential than a standard reference electrode. The stent substrate is coated with a biodegradable polymer having a second metallic material dispersed therein, wherein the second metallic material has a higher electrical potential than the standard reference electrode. After implantation of the stent within the body lumen, the second metallic material is present in the polymeric coating in a sufficient concentration to cause galvanic corrosion of the first metallic material such that over time the stent substrate is bioresorbed.

A system and method for treating a vascular condition includes a conduit having an inner wall defining lumen and a replacement valve device. The replacement valve device includes a prosthetic valve connected to an expandable support structure; the expandable support structure includes at least one valve attachment portion and a plurality of valve attachment devices. Each valve attachment portion includes a plurality of struts, each strut having at least one opening for receiving one of the plurality of valve attachment devices.
