A curved battery cell may include (1) a positive terminal, (2) a negative terminal, (3) one or more curved electrodes, and (4) an outer case encasing the one or more curved electrodes that includes at least one curved surface having a non-uniform radius of curvature. A curved battery pack may include (1) a first curved battery cell with a first outer surface having a first non-uniform curvature and (2) a second curved battery cell with a second outer surface having a second non-uniform curvature. Head-mounted display assemblies may include a first eyecup and a second eyecup that are configured for respectively positioning a first lens and a second lens in front of intended locations of a user's eyes when the head-mounted display assembly is donned. The first eyecup and the second eyecup may be movable relative to each other to adjust for an interpupillary distance of the user's eyes. A single near-eye display screen may be configured for displaying an image to the user through the first and second eyecups. Head-mounted display assemblies and related methods for interpupillary distance adjustments

A wearable battery-pack accessory may include (1) one or more curved batteries, (2) charging circuitry that charges the one or more curved batteries, (3) supplying circuitry that supplies power to a connected external computing device, and (4) an outer housing including a curved surface shaped to conform to a portion of a wearer's body. A head-mounted display system may include (1) a head-mounted display, (2) a strap that is coupled to the head-mounted display and wraps around the back of a user's head when the user is wearing the head-mounted display, and (3) a battery-pack accessory detachably coupled to the strap. Various other apparatus, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

The disclosed head-mounted display assemblies may include a first eyecup and a second eyecup that are configured for positioning in front of intended locations of a user's eyes. A heat-management device includes an array of recesses distributed across an external surface of a thermally conductive body. The device includes an array of protrusions interspersed with the array of recesses that form a network of cavities within an internal volume of the thermally conductive body. The array of recesses and the array of protrusions define a non-planar interface that is complementary to a curved surface of a heat source. A fluid volume can be retained within the network of cavities at a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure. The heat management device includes a cooling operation mode wherein the fluid volume absorbs heat from the heat source through the non-planar interface and dissipates heat away from the heat source through the network of cavities.

A computing device includes a housing having an inner surface, a first outer surface, a second outer surface, and a side extending between the first outer surface and the second outer surface. The computing device also includes a heat generating electronic device, a first heat spreader, and a second heat spreader. At least a portion of the first heat spreader abuts or is adjacent to the inner surface of the housing. The second heat spreader extends from a first position within the housing, at or adjacent to the heat generating electronic device to a second position within the housing. The second position is closer to the side of the housing than the first position. A first portion of the second heat spreader abuts the first heat spreader, and a second portion of the second heat spreader is at a distance from the first heat spreader.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for improved heat dissipation

Techniques disclosed herein relate to molding inserts with improved cooling performance. A mold insert includes a body and a plurality of heat sink elements coupled to the body. The body includes an area with a recessed surface that has different depths in a plurality of different regions. The plurality of heat sink elements is configured to provide different thermal resistances in the plurality of different regions of the mold insert, where a thermal resistance of the mold insert in a region with a higher recessed surface depth is lower than a thermal resistance of the mold insert in a region with a lower recessed surface depth. In some embodiments, the plurality of heat sink elements form cooling channels that are configured to conduct a cooling fluid from regions of the mold insert with higher recessed surface depths to regions of the mold insert with lower recessed surface depths.

A lost wax cast vapor chamber device is provided. Once a mesh is produced, a meltable core is formed from a meltable core material with the mesh positioned at least partially inside the core. Over the meltable core a metallic layer is formed, at least partially surrounding the meltable core. A chamber formed by the metallic layer is exposed by melting the meltable core to cause it to be removed from an internal void of the chamber, the internal void encapsulating the mesh. The melted material from the meltable core flows out an opening on at least one surface of the chamber. Subsequently, the internal void is filled at least partially with a working fluid and the opening is closed. The mesh supports the surfaces of the chamber against deformation under the vacuum of the internal void. Movement of working fluid by capillary action is facilitated by the mesh.

3D printed thermal management devices and corresponding methods of manufacturing are described herein. A thermal management device includes a single contiguous component including at least a portion of a first heat exchanger and at least a portion of a second heat exchanger. The second heat exchanger is of a different type than the first heat exchanger.

Heat dissipation configurations and methods are described herein. A heat dissipation apparatus may include an individual piece of metal having a thermally conductive metal surface. The metal surface includes a plurality of ridges or protrusions extending from a base of the metal surface, wherein an air flow channel is provided between each two adjacent protrusions, therein providing a plurality of air flow channels. The apparatus is configured to dissipate heat for an electronic device having an active cooling source directing air through the plurality of air flow channels. In some examples, the heat dissipation apparatus is a vapor chamber, and the surface includes a section having a trough and a raised area or platform surrounded by the trough, wherein the raised area is configured to contact a microprocessor die in communication with the vapor chamber.
