An electric machine includes a rotor structure disposed within a motor housing, wherein a second rotor end has a plurality of axially stacked laminations. The electric machine further includes a motor position sensor system which includes a first plurality of cutouts defined in the plurality of axially stacked laminations, wherein the first plurality of cutouts have a progressively smaller cross-sectional area at each lamination. The motor position sensor system also includes a second plurality of cutouts defined in the plurality of axially stacked laminations, wherein the second plurality of cutouts have a progressively smaller cross-sectional area at each lamination. The motor position sensor system further includes a plurality of motor sensors axially spaced from the second rotor end, and a plurality of sensor magnets axially spaced from the second rotor end and the plurality of motor sensors.

Motor position sensing system for rotating electric machines

A permanent magnet machine includes a machine housing having an inner surface that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a central longitudinal axis. The permanent magnet machine also includes a stator disposed within the machine housing, the stator having a stator core having an exterior surface extending between a first face and a second face along the central longitudinal axis, wherein the exterior surface defines a discontinuous region that is arranged to minimize points of contact between the inner surface and the exterior surface. The discontinuous region is at least partially defined by at least one of a first perturbation and a second perturbation that is circumferentially spaced apart from the first perturbation.

Permanent magnet machine

An electric motor assembly comprising a stator having a plurality of stator lamination sheets. Each of the stator lamination sheets includes an annular body and a plurality of stator teeth extending radially inwardly from the annular body to an opening. A rotor is located in the opening. Each of the stator teeth defining a pocket with a dampening element located in the pocket. The dampening element comprises a material that is viscoelastic. The pocket and dampening element are located in a location of the stator tooth that has less magnetic flux than an adjacent area of the stator tooth.

The machine housing has an inner surface that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a central longitudinal axis. Technical solutions are described for providing driver warning using steering systems. An example steering system includes a motor control system that sends a command to a motor. The steering system further includes a fault monitoring system that sets a fault indication flag by monitoring one or more components of the steering system. The steering system further includes a driver warning feedback system that generates a warning injection signal based on and in response to the fault indication flag being set. Further, the motor control system generates a driver feedback by modifying the command to the motor using the warning injection signal, and sending the modified command to the motor.

Driver warning in electric power steering systems

A rotor comprises a first rotor lamination and a second rotor lamination. The first rotor lamination and the second rotor lamination are configured for defining, when joined into rotor assembly, a central axis of rotation and a plurality of interior magnet pockets disposed symmetrically about the central axis of rotation, each pocket of the plurality of interior magnet pockets is configured for housing and retaining a permanent magnet. A method of forming a rotor comprises forming a first rotor lamination and a second rotor lamination, rotating the second rotor lamination about an axis of symmetry of the second rotor lamination; and mating the first rotor lamination to the second rotor lamination such that a first notch of the first rotor lamination is disposed adjacent to the first notch of the second rotor lamination.

A method for implementing program execution integrity (PEI) for a communication-based sensor includes receiving an output communication message from the sensor, the output communication message including sensor output data internally processed within the sensor. The output communication message further includes raw data used by the sensor in internally processing the sensor output data. The raw data is independently processed, and the results thereof are compared with the internally processed sensor output data so as to verify the processing integrity of the sensor to a desired tolerance.

Method and system for program execution integrity for communication-based angle sensor

A system for assisting a driver of a vehicle in precisely reaching a target destination while the vehicle is in reverse. The system comprises a control unit, an HD sensor, a rear wheel steering actuator, and a control positioned for operation by the driver. The HD sensor is in communication with the control unit and measures the relative position of a target location with respect to a location on the vehicle. The rear wheel steering actuator is in communication with the control unit and steers at least a rear wheel of the vehicle. The driver operated control is also in communication with the control unit. The control unit, upon receiving a signal from the control, enters an HD mode in which the control unit operates the rear wheel steering actuator to maneuver the vehicle to bring the target location and the location on the vehicle into alignment.

Rear steering hitch/docking mode

A method for detecting a loss of motor control in an electric power steering system is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes determining a duty cycle of a steering command signal generated by a controller. The steering command signal commands a steering mechanism to be turned in either a first or a second direction, the second direction being opposite to the first direction. A steering velocity of the steering mechanism is determined, the steering velocity being characterized by a steering velocity magnitude and a steering velocity direction whenever the steering velocity is greater than zero. The steering velocity direction corresponds to either the first or the second direction. The duty cycle is then compared to a first selected value, and the steering velocity magnitude is compared to a second selected value. If the duty cycle exceeds the first selected value, the steering velocity magnitude exceeds the second selected value, and the steering velocity direction is opposite to the direction commanded by the steering command signal, then a fault signal is generated.
