A video inspection system provides capability to view objects not satisfactorily accessible by direct line of sight. The video inspection system includes a fluid ejection nozzle to clear the workpiece area to be inspected, an adjustable focus camera and connections to remote image data processing equipment. The video inspection system includes a sapphire lens cover to protect the optical lens and a tip protection boot to protect the viewing head from damage by contact with the work being inspected.

A crack repair method includes forming a pair of holes into a surface of a structural workpiece on opposite sides of the crack, forming a slot into the surface of the structural workpiece to connect the holes on opposite sides of a crack, installing the cammed drawbolt assembly into the holes and slot, drawing said crack closed by actuating the cammed drawbolt assembly into a closed position and securing the drawbolt into the closed position.

In one aspect, the present invention is a web-based system that facilitates rapid and reliable documenting, cataloging, and distributing of proven error proofing techniques. More specifically, and in an exemplary embodiment, a system includes a plurality of clients coupled to a web-based server. A method and apparatus is provided for making impressions of edges and profiling the edges using a profiling machine. The apparatus allows the impressionable material used for forming the impression to be held in a fixed position while the impression of the edge is formed, and then allows the impression to be withdrawn in a manner that leaves the impression substantially unchanged and substantially true to the profile of the edge. The apparatus also comprises fittings to make the apparatus compatible with a profiling machine and allows the impression to be positioned in the profiling machine in substantially the same orientation every time an impression is taken.

The present invention relates to a method for optimizing the performance of a process, especially where the process is performed at several different locations. In one embodiment, one or more experts produce a decision tree for use in determining a recommended sequence of steps for the process. A computer network, such as the World Wide Web, is used to convey a request to a computer that has access to the decision tree for a recommended sequence of steps. The request includes any information that is needed by the decision tree to determine the recommended sequence of steps. In response to the request, the computer uses the information in the request and the decision tree to produce the recommended sequence of steps. The recommended sequence of steps is then directed over the network to the user.

A system for producing a process advisor application uses a process mapping program, a compiler and a program such as a Java servlet to produce a process advisor application. The process mapping program is used to create a decision tree, and the compiler compiles the decision tree into a data file. The data file is then converted into one or more computer viewable documents, such as web pages.

System and method for producing web-based process advisor applications

A process optimization system and method uses a computer network, particularly the Internet, to standardize a process performed at a number of geographically separated locations while assuring optimal use of available process technology. The system includes at least one central server computer system and at least one client-user computer station at each location. Data relating to the process is inputted into the server computer system using any one of the client-user computer stations. The server computer system the uses the data to determine an optimal approach to the process and displays the optimal approach on the client-user computer station used to input the data.

Internet-based process optimization system and method

A tandem tool point apparatus for simultaneously machining surfaces on opposite sides of a thin wall may be used on an annulus having flat machining surfaces or on a circular wall having curved machining surfaces. The tool has spaced apart first and second tool points mounted in first and second tool holders respectively and a coupling element for coupling the first and second tool holders together to maintain the first and second tool points in tandem during a machining operation on the opposite sides of the wall. The apparatus preferably includes a tandem adjusting element for simultaneously adjusting the space between the tool points. A spacer may be used between the holders extending longitudinally over a portion of a length of the holders and the adjusting element longitudinally disposed between the tool points. The present invention is particularly useful in a lathe assembly having a chuck operable for rotating an annular workpiece about a chuck axis and a tool support operable to translate axially and radially with respect to the chuck axis. Mounted in the tool support is the tandem point tool and the tool holders in the form of longitudinally extending tool bars having tool point inserts mounted at aft portions of the bars and a longitudinally extending spacer disposed between the bars at forward portions of the bars.

A dampening apparatus for dampening vibrations of a workpiece during machining, the dampening apparatus having a dampener, a support to support and place the dampener in abutting vibration absorbing contact with the workpiece, and a dampener fixture for holding the dampener fixed relative to the workpiece. A pressure adjusting apparatus to adjust contact pressure between the dampener and the workpiece is preferably included. The dampener may further include a number of dampening rods supported by the plate at first ends of the rods and which in turn support dampening elements at distal second ends of the rods. The dampening elements may be lugs made of a resilient material such as rubber and the lugs may have flat surfaces for being placed in abutting vibration absorbing contact with the workpiece. The invention also includes a method of machining a thin web of a workpiece having an annular inner hub connected to a concentric annular outer rim by the thin web using the dampener. The preferred method includes adjusting the dampener to deflect the center of the web a predetermined amount before machining.
