A process and apparatus for fluidizing a population of catalyst particles having a low catalyst fines content includes a fluidized bed reactor which includes a plurality of catalyst particles in the reactor wherein the catalyst particles having a dvalue of greater than about 40 microns. The catalyst particles are contacted with a fluidizing medium under conditions to fluidize the particles, the reactor includes a continuous reaction zone and separation zone and the fluidized of the catalyst particles are situated within the reaction and both the reaction zone and the separation zone include obstructing members which obstruct the flow of particles such that the catalyst particles can be maintained at an axial gas Peclet number from about 10 to about 20.

Fluidizing a population of catalyst particles having a low catalyst fines content

A gas-solids reaction system is provided for improving product recovery in a multiple reactor reaction system. The solids of the product gas-solids flows from the multiple reactors are separated out in a separation vessel having a baffled transition zone. Additional product vapor is stripped from the solids as the solids pass through the baffled transition zone. The solids are then returned to the multiple reactors.

Product recovery in gas-solids reactors

The present invention relates to processes for fluidizing a population of catalyst particles that are depleted of catalyst fines. In one embodiment, the process includes providing a plurality of catalyst particles in the reactor, wherein the catalyst particles have a dvalue of greater than about 40 microns. The catalyst particles are contacted with a fluidizing medium under conditions effective to cause the catalyst particles to behave in a fluidized manner and form a fluidized bed. The particles are contacted with one or more primary obstructing members while in the fluidized bed. By fluidizing the catalyst particles in this manner, the catalyst particles can be maintained at an axial gas Peclet number of from about 10 to about 20.

The invention concerns methods and systems for minimizing back-mixing of feedstock flow in converting oxygenates to olefins. In one embodiment, back-mixing is reduced by providing a reactor that includes baffles to reduce the hydraulic diameter of at least a portion of the reactor. Some or all of the baffles can also serve as cooling tubes for reducing temperature gradients in the reactor, and thereby maximize light olefin production.

Oxygenate-to-olefin conversions in a baffled reactor

This invention relates to the catalytic cracking of a hydrocarbon feed. In particular, this invention relates to an apparatus and process utilizing a catalyst stripper section of a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) reactor with chordal trays designed to provide improved stripping of hydrocarbons from spent FCC catalyst in an FCC reactor stripping zone.

Method of operating a riser reactor

This invention is to a method and system for operating a hydrocarbon conversion process. A two stage reactor system is used in which the gas superficial velocity of the second reaction stage is greater than that in the first reaction stage. The first reaction stage operates at more continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) like characteristics, and the second reaction stage operates at more plug flow reactor (PFR) like characteristics.

The present invention is directed to a hydrocarbon conversion apparatus and process. The apparatus comprises the following: a plurality of riser reactors, each having a first end into which a catalyst is fed, a second end through which the catalyst can exit, and optionally a center axis extending therebetween. The apparatus also includes a separation zone having a plurality of inlets, each inlet not being oriented along the center axes of the riser reactors, the separation zone being provided to separate the catalyst from products of a reaction conducted in the hydrocarbon conversion apparatus. A plurality of deviating members are also provided, each deviating member being in fluid communication between the second end of a respective riser reactor and a respective inlet of the separation zone. A multi-stage gas-solids separator is configured so that the higher density (solids) output flows of two or more of the separator stages are merged together. The multi-stage separator is preferably composed of cyclone separators, with the diplegs of at least two of the cyclone separator stages merged together.

Gas-solids separation device and method

A method and apparatus are provided for obtaining a reproducible sample of solid particles. The reproducible sample is obtained by receiving solid particles into a collection system that includes a sheltered volume. Solid particles that settle outside of the sheltered volume are purged from the collection system. The remaining solid particles inside the sheltered volume correspond to the reproducible sample.

Catalyst sampling system

The present invention provides a process for making an olefin product from an oxygenate-containing feedstock comprising: a) contacting the feedstock in a reaction zone with catalyst particles comprising a molecular sieve containing acid sites and having an average coke loading of 1 to 10 carbon atoms per acid site of said molecular sieve, under conditions effective to convert the feedstock into an olefin product stream and to provide unregenerated catalyst particles, b) removing a portion of said catalyst particles from said reaction zone and contacting said portion with a regeneration medium in a regeneration zone under conditions effective to obtain regenerated catalyst particles which have an average coke loading of no greater than 10 carbon atoms per acid site of said molecular sieve, and c) introducing said regenerated catalyst particles into said reaction zone to provide a catalyst mixture of unregenerated catalyst particles and regenerated catalyst particles, in an amount sufficient to provide an average coke loading on said catalyst mixture in an amount ranging from 1 to 10 carbon atoms per acid site of said molecular sieve.

This invention is to a process and system for controlling solids distribution in a gas-solids reactor. Solids distribution is controlled by controlling electrical charges between solid particles flowing between conductive surfaces within a gas-solids reactor. The electrical charges are controlled by conventional means such as by grounding the opposing conductive surfaces, or by applying a voltage to one of the opposing conductive surfaces.

The present invention is directed to a hydrocarbon conversion apparatus.
