System and methods for generating a work plan for a headland of an agricultural field (e.g., the portion of the agricultural field that is used by an agricultural machine to perform edge turns while working a main work partition of the field). A field boundary polygon indicative of a workable area of the agricultural field is segmented into multiple segments including a headland polygon and a work partition polygon. A seed track is generated based on a shape of a portion of the boundary of the headland polygon that is shared in common with the boundary of the field boundary polygon. The work plan is generated by replicating the seed track at a defined spacing throughout the headland polygon. In some implementations, the agricultural machine is operated autonomously or semi-autonomously to work the headland area based on the defined work plan.

An object counting device adjusts a signal to account for noise to improve object counting accuracy. A controller receives an electromagnetic radiation (e.g., light) intensity signal from radiation detectors and determines that its value is within a voltage threshold, thereby indicating that no object is passing through the radiation. The controller determines a derivative of the signal and that the derivative is less than a derivative threshold level for at least a predefined time. The controller then updates a base noise floor value to be the value of the radiation intensity signal to account for particles within a path of the electromagnetic radiation to improve an object counting accuracy. In some embodiments, the processor can scale the received radiation intensity signal in accordance with the updated base noise floor value.

Device and method for adjusting a signal for an object detector

An object detection system compensates for variations in transmission characteristics within an object passageway caused by, for example, dust or dirt. An object detection device includes a plurality of electromagnetic radiation emitters and detectors arranged in rows on opposite sides of a passageway. First lenses focus radiation from the emitters into a semi-columnated beams of radiation that together create a plane of semi-columnated electromagnetic radiation that spans substantially across a width of the passageway. Second lenses focus the received electromagnetic radiation onto corresponding ones of the plurality of radiation detectors. A controller receives a radiation intensity signal from the detectors, determines that its value is outside of a predetermined range, and adjusts an amount of electrical power supplied to the plurality of radiation emitters so that the value of the radiation intensity signal changes to become within the predetermined range.

Device and method for detecting objects passing through a passageway

A sensing system for obtaining a gradient of soil properties in real-time as a function of soil depth is disclosed herein. The sensing system includes a support structure coupled to an agricultural implement and which is rotatable about a rotational axis relative to a frame of the agricultural implement. A sensor is arranged on a surface of the support structure and configured to generate an output signal indicative of the measured soil property based on a sensed a capacitance change corresponding to a change in a dielectric property of a measured soil sample with which the sensor interacts. A measuring unit is coupled to the at least one sensor and processes the output signal generated by the at least one sensor to generate a gradient profile of the soil properties in real-time as a function of one or more depths for display on a user interface.

Sensing system for measuring soil properties in real time

A sensor for determining soil properties is disclosed herein. The sensor includes a ground engaging structure adapted for coupling to an agricultural implement and to penetrate soil at a predetermined depth. An electrode assembly is disposed on a sensing surface of the ground engaging structure that includes a plurality of electrode sensing units. The plurality of electrode sensing units are configured to selectively generate a series of electric fields that project outwardly into the surrounding soil in response to receipt of an excitation signal and sense changes in the electric field corresponding to a change in a measured electrical output signal that is used to determine one or more soil properties during movement of the agricultural implement in a field.

Sensor for determining soil moisture

A sensor system for determining soil characteristics is disclosed herein. The sensor system includes a ground engaging device for coupling to an agricultural implement. The ground engaging device includes at least one disc member having an aperture and an elongate shaft extending through the aperture. A first sensor unit is arranged on a sensing surface of the disc member and is configured to measure forces acting on the disc member. A second sensor unit is arranged on the elongate shaft and is configured to measure forces acting on the shaft. A processor is communicatively coupled to each of the first and second sensor units. The processor is configured to generate an output signal indicative of a soil characteristic based on the forces measured.

Embodiments herein relate to a time domain depth sensor system and method for determining a depth of a ground engaging device in soil. The sensor system may include a signal transmission element arranged on an outer periphery of a ground engaging device that is adapted to penetrate soil. The signal transmission element can be arranged to receive and transmit an electrical signal that is responsive to impedance discontinuities detected by a pulse detector. The pulse detector is configured to detect a first and a second reflected signal corresponding to a sensed impedance discontinuities at a first and a second soil location. An electronic data processor is communicatively coupled the pulse detector and is configured to determine the depth of the ground engaging device in the soil based on a difference between a first time of propagation of the first reflected signal and a second time of propagation of the second reflected signal.

In one example, the machine comprises a trench opener configured to open a trench, and a trench depth sensing system comprising a ground-engaging component and a trench depth sensor configured to generate a signal indicative a displacement of the ground-engaging component by directly sensing a surface of the ground engaging component. In one example, an agricultural planting machine comprising a trench opener configured to open a trench, and a trench depth sensing system comprising a ground-engaging component and a capacitive sensor comprising a transmitter element driven by an input signal to generate an electric field and a receiver element configured to generate an output signal based on a capacitive coupling between the transmitter and receiver elements, wherein the capacitive coupling changes based on movement of the ground-engaging component within the electric field. A trench depth calculation component is configured to generate an indication of trench depth based on the output signal.

A tilt sensor and method comprises a first accelerometer for measuring a first acceleration level associated with a first axis of the vehicle. A second accelerometer measures a second acceleration level associated with a second axis of the vehicle that is generally perpendicular to the first axis. A data processor is capable of determining an arcsine-derived tilt based on an arcsine equation and the determined first acceleration level. The data processor is capable of determining an arc-cosine-derived tilt based on an arccosine equation and the determined second acceleration level. The data processor comprises a selector for selecting the arcsine-derived tilt as the final tilt of the vehicle if the determined arcsine-derived tilt is lesser than the determined arccosine derived tilt such that the final tilt compensates for vertical acceleration associated with changes in the terrain in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
