An apparatus to process a data word includes an encoder to receive and encode the data word, wherein a power spectral density of an encoded word is lowered across a specific frequency band relative to a power spectral density of the data word. A data transmission bus is coupled with the encoder and receives the encoded word, wherein a clock frequency of the data transmission bus is selected based on the specific frequency band. A decoder coupled with the data transmission bus receives and decodes the encoded word, wherein the data word is obtained from the encoded word.

Creation of spectral windows through the use of high rate code words

For one embodiment, a short-range, wireless communication link, such as a Bluetooth link, is established between a mobile phone and a computer system. The mobile phone transmits an access code via the link to the computer system. The access code is generated using data stored in the subscriber identity module (SIM) in the mobile phone. Access to the computer system is granted in response to receiving the access code. In this manner, the SIM is used not only to identify the user during cellular phone calls (or other long-range, wireless communication) but also to authenticate the user and to gain access to a computer system.

Only a portion of the baseband associated with a wireless communication protocol is contained within the controller. Method and apparatus for providing a radio module for a computer system

A molded plastic coaxial connector. The coaxial connector is fabricated within a stacking connector system of a mini PCI card. A plastic protuberance having a cavity and a corresponding depression having a center conductor pin are molded to the dimensions corresponding to a desired characteristic impedance. The plastic is then coated with a conductive material. When the protuberance is mated to the depression, the coated surfaces of each form the ground shield of a coaxial connection and the center conducting pin is mated to the cavity to form the drive point of the coaxial connection. Fabricating the coaxial connection from plastic reduces the number of processes and eliminates the need for individually machined parts, thereby reducing the production costs. In one embodiment multiple coaxial connectors may be implemented along a single piece of plastic. This allows for reduction in size as the tolerance buildup of conventional coaxial connectors is avoided.

An embodiment of a dual port antenna system includes a balanced 90&deg; hybrid coupler integrated with a crossed-field antenna to provide stable high isolation between the two input ports of the system. Unlike conventional antennas, the crossed-field antenna is made up of two radiating elements separately fed at a phase difference of 90&deg;. This allows all of the power from the two transmitters to be coupled to the antenna via the hybrid coupler. A balanced 90&deg; hybrid coupler provides isolation between the two ports of the system by matching the electrical characteristics of the antenna. The isolation between ports provided by the balanced 90&deg; hybrid coupler is approximately 35-40 db which is sufficient to allow the independent operation of transceivers connected to the input ports. The crossed-field antenna exhibits loose electrical coupling so that the electrical characteristics remain stable and sufficiently high isolation between input ports is maintained.
