A carrying rack for transporting sporting or work equipment over a pickup truck bed while utilizing relatively lighter weight materials is disclosed. The carrying rack utilizes the space above the pickup truck bed so the pickup truck bed may be enclosed with a tonneau. The carrying rack incorporates tracks which are easily installed and removed without requiring drilling or other modifications to the pickup truck bed. The carrying rack tracks allow for uprights and cross members to be attached when in use. The carrying rack is mounted to the pickup truck bed so the tonneau cover may be rolled up without removing the cross members or uprights. The location of the cross bars and uprights on the carrying rack can be adjusted along the length of the carrying rack tracks, thus allowing for attaching equipment such as bicycle carrier, ski carrier, cargo basket, ladder, or other types of equipment. In some embodiments, the lateral position of the tracks can be varied as well. The carrying rack allows the pickup truck bed space to be used for other purposes while transporting sporting or other equipment.

A cleaning tape for cleaning a magnetic tape head and tape path, having a non-abrasive cleaning surface with abrasive segments applied on the non-abrasive surface to form an alternating pattern. The abrasive segments may be angled across the surface of the non-abrasive cleaning surface. The abrasive segments loosen adhered debris and the non-abrasive segments carry the loose and loosened debris away from the head and the tape path.

The present invention provides an apparatus using dry cleaning techniques for cleaning a read/write head of the contact transducing type such as found on computer data backup tape drive systems. The apparatus includes a housing enclosing a supply reel holding a supply of cleaning tape, a takeup reel for holding used or soiled cleaning tape, and a gear train for transmitting rotary power at a reduced rotational speed from an external power source such as the tape drive capstan to the takeup reel. The gear train includes a plurality of gears that constitute a gear reduction system such that the cleaning tape can be driven past the head at an effective cleaning speed which is substantially less than the normal read/write speed of the tape drive. The apparatus further includes a movable shutter mechanism for blocking one of a pair of light paths between a light emitter and a light sensor forming part of the tape drive system, thereby providing a unique signal to the tape drive. The shutter mechanism is activated upon insertion into the tape drive by the tensioning of the cleaning tape against the shutter mechanism so as to move it into operational, light-path blocking position against the influence of a biasing spring, thereby alerting the tape drive that a cleaning apparatus has been inserted into the tape drive so that the cleaning cycle operates for a tape drive manufacturer preferred time period.
