Disclosed are methods for determining physiological parameters of an individual including blood pressure, arterial compliance, flow velocity, and pressure wave velocity. A noninvasive method for determining the blood pressure of a patient is based on measurements of flow velocity, pulse wave velocity and arterial compliance. A noninvasive method for determining the arterial compliance of a patient is based on measurements of blood pressure, flow velocity, and pulse wave velocity.

A hybrid capacitive and optical fingerprint sensor system includes: capacitive sensor electrodes; an optical image sensor having a plurality of image sensor pixels; light conditioning elements, configured to condition light from a sensing region of the hybrid capacitive and optical fingerprint sensor for detection by the optical image sensor; and a processing system having one or more controllers, configured to operate the capacitive sensor electrodes in a low-power mode of operation for the hybrid capacitive and optical fingerprint sensor, and to operate the optical image sensor to acquire an image from the sensing region of the hybrid capacitive and optical fingerprint sensor.

An input device for capacitive sensing includes: a plurality of transmitter electrodes and a plurality of receiver electrodes. The input device is configured to: operate in a first mode by driving sensing signals onto each of the transmitter electrodes and receiving separate detected signals corresponding to each of the plurality of receiver electrodes; and operate in a second mode by driving a common sensing signal onto a plurality of the transmitter electrodes and receiving a common detected signal corresponding to at least one receiver electrode selected from the plurality of receiver electrodes.

Fingerprint sensor to support wake on finger and navigation

Embodiments herein describe a user device that includes a dual purpose coil (or inductor) used when performing inductive sensing and when transferring electrical power to the user device. When performing inductive sensing, the user device couples the coil to a sensing circuit which measures a resistivity of a lossy material inductively coupled to the coil. In one embodiment, the user device may be worn on the wrist of the user so that the sensing circuit measures the resistivity corresponding to the flow of blood in an artery or vein. By monitoring changes in the resistivity of the blood or artery, the user device can identify the heartbeat of the user. When transferring electrical power, the user device couples the coil to a charging circuit which receives the power provided by an external charging device that is inductively coupled to the coil.

Embodiments of the present invention generally provide a processing system for a display device having an integrated sensing device. The processing system includes a driver module that includes driver circuitry, the driver module coupled to source lines and sensor electrodes. Each sensor electrode including one or more common electrodes configured for display updating and input sensing. The driver module is configured to select a first display line for display updating during a first display update period, drive the sources lines with first display update signals during the first display update period to update the first display line, drive a first sensor electrode of the plurality of sensor electrodes for capacitive sensing during a non-display update period, and operate the source lines in a restore mode during a restart period, wherein the restart period is after the non-display update period and before a second display update period.

Reducing display artifacts after non-display update periods

Embodiments of the invention generally provide an input device with display screens that periodically update (refresh) the screen by selectively driving common electrodes corresponding to pixels in a display line. In general, the input devices drive each electrode until each display line (and each pixel) of a display frame is updated. In addition to updating the display, the input device may perform capacitive sensing using the display screen as a proximity sensing area. To do this, the input device may interleave periods of capacitive sensing between periods of updating the display based on a display frame. For example, the input device may update the first half of display lines of the display screen, pause display updating, perform capacitive sensing, and finish updating the rest of the display lines. Further still, the input device may use common electrodes for both updating the display and performing capacitive sensing.

Distributed blanking for touch optimization

Embodiments of the invention generally provide an input device that simultaneously transmits a multiplexed signal across two or more transmitter electrodes used in touch detection. The multiplexed includes two or more component signals that are transmitted on respective electrodes (or channels). The component signals are then decoded and correlated to indicate a positional location of an input object. Various multiplexing schemas&#x2014;e.g., code division multiplexing, frequency division multiplexing, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, and the like&#x2014;may be used to generate the multiplex signal and then demultiplex the received results.

Flexible timing and multiplexing for a display device comprising an integrated capacitive sensing device

Embodiments of the present invention generally provide a processing system for a display device having an integrated sensing device. The processing system includes a driver module coupled to a plurality of source lines and a plurality of transmitter electrodes. Each transmitter electrode includes one or more common electrodes configured for display updating and input sensing. The driver module is configured for selecting a first display line for display updating and driving the sources lines with first display update signals to update the first display line. The drive module is further configured for driving a first transmitter electrode of the plurality of transmitter electrodes for input sensing during a non-display update period and driving the source lines with restore signals during a restart period. The processing system further includes a receiver module coupled to a plurality of receiver electrodes and configured for receiving resulting signals with the receiver electrodes.

Stochastic dithering may be used to reduce the size of the frame buffer and the complexity of the D/A Converters (DACs) in the drive circuitry that are used in a video display system. Hardware for stochastic dithering can be simplified when pixel data is presented in raster order. The hardware adds algebraic noise to the image to be dithered, and thresholds the result.
