A manicuring implement includes a shaft and an operative head arranged at an end of the shaft and having first and second fixed jaws defining an indentation therebetween. The first jaw has a straight inner surface forming one side of the indentation and an outer surface having a straight portion on an opposite side. The second jaw has a curved inner surface forming the other side of the indentation and an outer surface having a curved portion on an opposite side. By forming the straight and curved portions on the outer surfaces of the jaws, a manicurist can readily determine the orientation of the implement and use the implement to cause either the straight or curved jaw to be inserted between the nail and the underlying skin to clean the underside of the nail. The indentation serves to limit the penetration of the jaws below the nail into the underlying skin and nail bed.

The alignment detection system includes a modulator adjustment unit for providing a test pattern on the illumination modulator, a detector for receiving a modulated illumination field from the illumination modulator, a sampling unit for determining at least two sample values (A and C) for each of two areas of the modulated illumination field respectively, and an evaluation unit for determining whether the value |A&#x2212;C| is greater than a threshold value.

System and method for determining the modulation quality of an illumination modulator in an imaging system

A hose and cable routing system for routing and flexing a coolant supply hose, a coolant return hose, and an electrical cable to a laser system mounted on a movable optical carriage in an imaging system without introducing mechanical disturbances to the optical carriage. The hose and cable routing system includes a support tray, mounted to the imaging system, for supporting the coolant hoses and electrical cable, and a movable support bracket for supporting and running the coolant hoses and electrical cable from the support tray to the optical carriage. A track is provided to guide the movable support bracket along the imaging system in response to a displacement of the optical carriage. A vibration isolator is mounted between the support bracket and the optical carriage. Other embodiments of the hose and cable routing system are also disclosed.

Apparatus for routing hoses and cables in an imaging system

A vacuum system can remove ablated particles from an internal drum platesetter which has a drum for supporting a photosensitive medium, a carriage moveable in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the drum, and a laser mounted onto the moveable carriage for generating a beam to create an image on the medium during movement of the carriage, the beam ablating particles of the medium during creation of the image. The vacuum system includes: a vacuum head fixedly attached to the moveable carriage, and having at least one chamber for receiving the ablated particles through a slot located proximate to a periphery of the vacuum head; and an exhaust system connected to the vacuum head and including ductwork, at least one fan and at least one filter, for extracting the ablated particles from the at least one chamber of the vacuum head. The vacuum system also includes a hose capable of expanding and retracting in length to accommodate the movement of the vacuum head, and an internal duct support system for supporting the hose during expansion and retraction to prevent sagging of the hose. A swivel connection can be located at one or both ends of the hose to accommodate rotational movement of the hose during expansion and retraction.

This delay circuit is controlled by a delay controller that monitors the intensity modulation of the laser beam to provide feedback control. This system maximizes the rise and fall times of the beam to generate precise beam modulation required for high speed image setters.
