A method for performing duplex printing enables increased throughput in an indirect printing system. The method includes measuring a coverage parameter for image data to be printed, and transforming operation of the printer from a first printing process timing sequence to a second printing process timing sequence in response to the coverage parameter exceeding a predetermined threshold.

System and method for improving throughput for duplex printing operations in an indirect printing system

A printer is configured with a controller that transforms operation of the printer to increase throughput. The printer includes an image receiving member, a printhead configured to eject ink drops onto the image receiving member to form an ink image, a transfix roller configured to move towards and away from the image receiving member to form a transfixing nip with the image receiving member selectively, a release agent applicator configured to engage the image receiving member selectively to apply release agent to the rotatable imaging member, and a controller configured to generate firing signals that operate the printhead from image data and to transform operation of the printer from a first printing process sequence to a second printing process sequence in response to a coverage parameter for image data to be printed being less than a predetermined threshold.

System and method for improving throughput for printing operations in an indirect printing system

A method adjusts operation of a printer in accordance with an analysis of image content used to generate printed images. The method includes measuring image content of a first print image, comparing the measured image content to a predetermined threshold, and altering a print process parameter to adjust operation of a printer component in response to the measured image content exceeding the threshold.

System and method for optimizing printing throughput and print quality by evaluating image content

A method is implemented by a printer to move a transfix roller selectively to clean the transfix roller. The transfix roller is moved from a transfix nip with the print drum to a position where the transfix roller remains in rolling contact with the print drum, but exerts a pressure on the print drum that is less than the transfix pressure. The transfix roller is later moved out of rolling contact with the print drum in response to the transfix roller rotating a predetermined distance.

Method for lubricating a transfer roller with an image member

Ghosting conditions occur less frequently during duplex printing when a transfix roller in a printer is enabled to remain in rolling contact with release agent on a print drum after a trailing edge of a media sheet has left a transfix nip between the transfix roller and the print drum. A printer in which such rolling contact occurs includes a print drum for receiving ink ejected by a print head, a release agent applicator located proximate to the print drum to apply release agent to the print drum, a transfix roller located proximate to the print drum, a displaceable linkage coupled to the transfix roller to move the transfix roller into and out of contact with the print drum, a controller coupled to the displaceable linkage for generating signals that cause the displaceable linkage to move the transfix roller, the controller being configured to generate a transfix signal, a roll-off signal, and a release signal, and the displaceable linkage responds to the transfix signal to move the transfix roller to form the transfix nip with the print drum, the displaceable linkage responds to the roll-off signal to move the transfix roller away from the print drum so the transfix roller remains in rolling contact with the print drum with reduced pressure being exerted on the print drum, and the displaceable linkage responds to the release signal to move the transfix roller out of rolling contact with the print drum.

An offset printing apparatus for transferring a phase change ink onto a print medium having a phase change ink component for applying a phase change ink in a phase change ink image; an imaging member for accepting the phase change ink image from the phase change ink component, and transferring the phase change ink image from the imaging member to the print medium, and a transfix pressure member positioned in association with the imaging member, wherein the print medium passes through a nip formed between the imaging member and the transfix pressure member, and wherein the imaging member exerts pressure on the transfix pressure member so as to transfer and fuse the phase change ink image from the imaging member to the print medium, and further wherein the transfix pressure member includes a substrate; and an outer layer having a modulus of from about 8 to about 300 MPa, a thickness of from about 0.3 to about 10 mm, and wherein the pressure exerted at the nip is from about 750 to about 4,000 psi.

Phase change ink transfix pressure component with dual-layer configuration

A heater including a plurality of first dielectric vanes and a plurality of second dielectric vanes arranged about a longitudinal axis, each first dielectric vane and second dielectric vane having a plurality of wire guiding grooves, a heater wire structure wound around the first and second dielectric vanes in wire guiding grooves, and wherein the heater wire structure substantially avoids contact with bottoms of the wire guiding grooves of the second dielectric vanes.

Heater

A drum heater consisting of a plurality of vanes made preferably from mica material and having multiple separate heater wire channels controlled from an electrical cable is provided for heating the interior of a printer drum or fuser. The drum heater has element wires, which can be operated in two different modes, and which are wound around eight mica vanes. The mica vanes are held together on both ends with mica end caps for assembly, electrical isolation and thermal isolation. The mica vanes additionally define protruding tabs for attachment of wire restraining and protecting mica panels.

Disclosed is a phase change ink composition comprising (a) a phase change carrier, (b) a cyan colored resin or wax comprising the reaction product of (i) a cyan colorant having at least one functional group selected from (A) hydroxyl groups, (B) primary or secondary amino groups, (C) mercapto groups, or (D) mixtures thereof, and (ii) an isocyanate, and (c) an organic acid selected from (i) organic sulfonic acids, (ii) organic phosphinic acids, (iii) organic phosphonic acids, or (iv) mixtures thereof.

Cyan phase change inks

A method of improving automatic document feed of media printed with phase change inks coats the surface of the phase change inks on the media with fine particles. The particles may include PMMA, glass bead, silica particles, crushed glass particles, kaolin clay, micronized PE and PTFE, calcium carbonate powder, hard inks or toner powder. The particles may be applied to the surface of a transfix drum by oil transfer or electrostatically prior to jetting the phase change ink, or in the case of hard inks may be jetted onto the surface of the transfix drum (offset) with the phase change ink or onto the print media (direct) after application of the phase change ink in an overprint printing process. Also the particles may be applied by a pair of finishing rollers after the media has been printed with the phase change inks, either in a direct or offset print process, the finishing roller on the print side being coated with the fine particles.

Automatic document feed of phase change inks

An improved replaceable liquid application system for applying a liquid intermediate transfer surface to a support surface in a printer is provided. The liquid application system is contained in a removable cassette and utilizes a liquid impregnated arcuate surface that engages the support surface by rolling contact. The liquid impregnated arcuate surface and a reclamation assembly are contained in a removable cartridge in the cassette. A cartridge life status assembly determines when the useful life of the cartridge has been exhausted. Push tabs on the cartridge and finger wells on the cassette allow for easy and convenient removal of a used cartridge and insertion of a replacement cartridge.
