Embodiments of systems and methods for archive verification are disclosed. More specifically, embodiments of this archive verification can comprise loading media into a drive and reading data from the media to verify that the media and data on the media can be read. In one embodiment, media can be loaded into a drive and read according to a verification policy. As part of verifying that media and data on media can be read, read errors or other verification data associated with media can be obtained. Using this verification data a result for the media may be determined.

System and method for archive verification according to policies

Systems, methods and apparatus for archive verification including the verification of media in a library, are disclosed. More specifically, a method of archive verification may include performing an initial verification on a first media in a first drive and performing a subsequent verification on the first media in a second drive not used for the initial verification, and comparing the results of the initial verification and the subsequent verification. Embodiments may further perform an initial verification of the readability of a second tape media and subsequent verification of the readability for the second tape media, and compare the results of the initial verification to the results of the subsequent verification to determine the tape drive health, the efficacy of the first tape media or the second tape media, the efficacy of the first tape drive or the second tape drive, or whether to replace a tape media.

System and method for archive verification using multiple attempts

Embodiments described herein provide systems and methods for a self-describing tape that allow files stored on a tape according to a tape file system to be presented in a similar manner (e.g., to an operating system, to a network file system interface) by different instances of a second type of file system (e.g., a non-tape file system). This can include, for example, allowing a file system of the second type to consistently present files over a network file system interface as being available at the same directory path location, according to the same permissions.

Methods and systems for monitoring libraries and library drives. In one embodiment, a method is provided which includes polling the library to determine whether a storage media has been loaded in to, or unloaded from, a drive. When the media has been loaded, the method includes beginning a media monitoring session. The method may include determining which tape has been loaded in to which drive of the library and associating the session performance with that tape and that drive. Some embodiments include using a Read Element Status command to perform the polling. In some examples, the library is a magnetic tape library and the polling is performed out-of-band. Information regarding the media sessions can be output in order of session performance. Some embodiments include determining whether the cause of a slow session is external to the library and correcting the external cause.

Determining, displaying, and using tape drive session information

Systems, methods and apparatus for archive verification including the verification of media in a library, are disclosed. More specifically, a method of archive verification may include performing an initial verification on a set of media to obtain an initial result for each of the media. Based on the results of the initial verification a subsequent set of media may be selected for subsequent verification utilizing a set of rules. A subsequent verification may then be performed on each of the subsequent set of media. Based on the results of the subsequent verification it can then be attempted to determine if any of the media require still require subsequent verification using the set of rules. This iterative process may continue until no media need any subsequent verification.

In an electronic device having a keyboard (120) and a display (116), a processing system (106) displays on the display a message entered through the keyboard and selects a supplemental mode, in response to entry of a first predetermined key sequence by a user. The supplemental mode is selected in accordance with the first predetermined key sequence, from at least one of a group of supplemental modes included in the electronic device. The group of supplemental modes comprise an acronym mode (200), a supplemental scrolling keyboard mode (300), a predictive character pairing mode (301), a predictive menuing mode (400), and a bi-directional delete mode (500). The electronic device operates in accordance with the supplemental mode until an occurrence of at least one of (a) the user entering a second predetermined key sequence and (b) the supplemental mode executing to completion.
