A method of controlling the gloss of a white biaxially oriented polyester film. The film will include at least one layer containing a cycloolefin copolymer at a concentration of about 4 to about 60% by weight of that layer. The method includes the step of stretching the film in a machine direction to a ratio of about 2.3 to about 3.4 to obtain desired gloss characteristics.

The present invention provides a coated polymer film having release properties. The film includes a self-supporting polymer film layer, and a release coating on the film layer. The release coating, which can also be applied to alternate substrates, includes a cross-linkable acrylic and a polyolefin wax. The coating can optionally include a polysiloxane in combination with one or both of the acrylic and polyolefin wax.

The present invention provides a coated polymer film having heat seal properties. The heat seal coating includes a propylene diol copolyester. Preferably, the copolyester is formed from 1,3-propane diol, isophthalic acid and a sulfomonomer. A method of heat sealing using this coated film is also disclosed.
