A clutch apparatus includes a clutch pack including a plurality of friction disks having friction surfaces. The clutch pack may include a plurality of cooling inlets. The clutch pack may selectively transfer torque from a torque supplying member to a torque receiving member. The clutch apparatus may include a rotating manifold having at least a first cooling port for directing a cooling fluid to the clutch pack and at least a portion of the rotating manifold may be coupled for rotation with at least a portion of the friction disks. A fluid-flow area of at least a subset of the plurality of cooling inlets may be dissimilar from other of the plurality of cooling inlets for enabling a desired fluid flow to the friction disks.

Dual clutch arrangement with two piece main rotating manifold

An exemplary system includes at least one valve configured to control fluid flow in a dual-clutch transmission system. A solenoid is operably connected to the at least one valve and configured to move the valve to a plurality of positions. A primary processing unit is in communication with the solenoid and configured to determine an intended position of the valve. A controller is configured to receive the intended position of the valve from the primary processing unit and generate a primary control signal associated with the intended position of the valve. The solenoid is configured to move the valve to the intended position based on the primary control signal. A secondary processing unit is configured to receive information from the primary processing unit and prevent the primary control signal from controlling the solenoid if the primary processing unit is unable to control the solenoid.

A clutch apparatus includes a first clutch pack having a plurality of first friction disks. The first clutch pack will selectively transfer torque from a torque supplying member to a first torque receiving member. The apparatus also includes a second clutch pack having a plurality of second friction disks. The second clutch pack will selectively transfer torque from a torque supplying member to a second torque receiving member. The apparatus also includes a first rotating manifold having a first cooling inlet for directing a cooling fluid to the first clutch pack. At least a portion of the first rotating manifold is coupled for rotation with at least a portion of the first friction disks. The apparatus also includes a second rotating manifold having a second cooling inlet for directing a cooling fluid to the second clutch pack. At least a portion of the second rotating manifold is coupled for rotation with at least a portion of the second friction disks. The first rotating manifold and the second rotating manifold are interchangeable.

An exemplary transmission system includes a plurality of sensors each configured to output a signal at least partially representative of a speed of at least one of a first transmission input shaft, a second transmission input shaft, a transmission output shaft, and an engine. A transmission control module is in communication with the plurality of sensors and is configured to identify at least one of the plurality of sensors as a failed sensor and another of the plurality of sensors as a working sensor. The transmission control module is further configured to estimate the signal of the failed sensor based on a predetermined relationship between an expected signal from the failed sensor and the signal received from the working sensor.

The method includes the steps of determining a throttle operating parameter value and setting an operating mode of the clutch based on the throttle operating parameter value. The method may include the steps of comparing the throttle operating parameter value to a threshold value and setting the operating mode of the clutch based on the comparison step. The control system includes a microprocessor for receiving signals corresponding to a throttle operating parameter value. The microprocessor sets an operating mode of the clutch based on the throttle operating parameter value or, optionally, the comparison of the throttle operating parameter value to a threshold value.

When an automatic power downshift from a currently engaged ratio (GR) is required, the engine acceleration (EA) is monitored and compared with an engine free acceleration (EFA) to detect a false Neutral condition and to take appropriate action accordingly. Alternatively, a false Neutral condition is detected when the Absolute Value of the rotational speed of the output shaft (OS) times the currently engaged gear ratio (GR) minus the rotational speed of the input shaft (IS) is less than a predetermined value (ABS((OS*GR)&#x2212;IS)).

Method of detecting false neutral in an automated transmission system

A control system and calibration method are provided for a vehicle drive line having an automated master friction clutch. The control system utilizes engine torque data supplied by a serial communication data link to identify a clutch control parameter value corresponding to an urge-to-move position of the clutch. The clutch control parameter value identified by the calibration method is stored and utilized by the control system to control the engagement position of the automated clutch in an 'urge to move' mode of operation. The inventive calibration method can be utilized across multiple vehicle platforms having different engine, clutch and transmission system components.

A control method/system for controlling engagement of reverse ratios in automated vehicular transmission systems (10) having a controller (38) issuing command output signals to non-manually controlled actuators (30, 34) is provided.
