A light source capsule () having a capsule envelope () with a wall () defining an enclosed volume (), and having a sealed portion (). A light source () is positioned in the enclosed volume () and has deformable electrical leads-ins () extending through the sealed portion () of the capsule envelope (). Stiff lead-in engagers () are aligned with the sealed portion () of the capsule envelope () and are electrically coupled to the electrical leads (), the lead-in engagers being electrically conductive. The lead-in engagers are fitted through apertures in the base () of a lamp envelope () to complete a lamp ().

PAR lamp

A lamp () has a light source () with a distal portion () and a proximal portion (), the proximal portion () comprising a press seal () having a given cross-section. A lamp envelope () receives the light source (), the envelope () being arrayed about a longitudinal axis () and having a base () generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis (). A clip-receiving aperture () is formed in the base (), and at least one clip locator surface () is formed in the base () adjacent the clip-receiving aperture (). A clip () is positioned in the clip-receiving aperture (), the clip having a passage () shaped and formed to receive the press seal () of the light source () therein. The clip () has at least one first retainer () and at least one second retainer (), the at least one first retainer () being shaped and formed to engage the at least one clip locator surface (), whereby the clip () is located within the clip-receiving aperture (). The at least one second retainer () is shaped and formed to secure the clip () to the base (), and at least one third retainer () is shaped and formed to secure the press seal () of the light source () within the clip ().

Par lamp

A semi-standard threaded base lamp assembly may be formed with a substitutable optical housing. The assembly enables a standard set of components to be assembled as a threaded base lamp, but during construction any one of a variety of specialty reflector shells may be substituted in the assembly process to specialize the lamp for a particular market, need or interest.

A lamp includes a reflector having a passageway opening to a heel of the reflector, a lamp capsule having a lead that extends rearward through the passageway, a conductive clip that spans a diameter of the heel and that has tabs that extend forward at opposite sides of the heel and an arm that extends rearward, the arm being attached to a portion of the lead that projects out of the passageway, and a base that is attached to the heel and that engages the tabs at the opposite sides of the heel. The arm holds the lamp capsule in place and electrically connects the lamp capsule to the base. The arm may be a semi-detached central portion of the clip that is bent to be substantially parallel to an axis of the lead.

A package () for a bulb () having a bulbous, light-emitting end () and a socket end (), has a first thin-walled plastic body () arrayed along a longitudinal axis () and having a closed end () and an open end (), the open end () having a diameter D transverse to the longitudinal axis sufficient to admit insertion of the bulbous, light emitting end () of the bulb (), the closed end () of the first thin-walled plastic body () formed with at least one internal surface support () extending away from the longitudinal axis () in a plane transverse to the longitudinal axis and substantially contiguous with a curve of the bulbous light emitting end (), the open end () providing a circumferential coupling area (); and a second thin-walled plastic body () formed with a socket receiving end () and a mating coupling area () formed to conform to the circumferential coupling area () and coupled thereto. The package is preferably made by a method of packaging a light bulb as described above wherein the method comprises the steps of: forming a hollow body () to receive the light bulb; separating the body () into a bottom portion () and a top portion (); inserting a light bulb () into the bottom portion (); inverting the top portion () and placing the top portion) within the lower portion () in a manner to grasp the socket end () of the light bulb (); and sealing the top portion (_ to the bottom portion () to form the package ().

Method for packaging a light bulb

A pin lead incandescent lamp may be adapted for use in wedge type sockets. Opposed planar faces may be attached to the pins, enabling coupling to corresponding socket faces. Resilient U shaped pieces may be welded to the pins providing a simple coupling with a secure spring or friction coupling to standard wedge type socket.

The sourceand the reflector surfaceare oriented with the lamp axissubstantially co-axial with the reflector axis, and at least a portion of at least one of the electrodes, for example,, extends into the neck cavity. A zoneis formed in the neck cavityfor substantially redirecting specular reflection away from the seal area.

An efficient and safe lamp with a tungsten halogen capsule may be formed by using a two stage pyrophoric fuse as part of the electrical path to the capsule. The thin walled lamp with tungsten halogen capsule and two stage pyrophoric fuse yields a more efficient, less expensive and yet still safe tungsten halogen lamp. The thin walled lamp with tungsten halogen capsule and pyrophoric fuse provides a safe, thin walled outer envelope tungsten halogen lamp, provide a lamp with an oxygen sensitive fuse operable in low wattage lamps, provides a method manufacturing a pyrophoric fuse sensitive to moderate temperatures, provides an inexpensive and practical, low wattage, thin walled tungsten halogen lamp with a pyrophoric fuse.
