A battery grid is provided having a frame having a top element, a bottom element, a first side element, and a second side element. A current collection lug is coupled to the top element. The battery grid includes a plurality of wires provided within the frame and defining a plurality of open areas. The plurality of wires includes a vertical grid wire continuously extending from the bottom element toward the top element, and a plurality of horizontal grid wires continuously extending from the first side element or second side element, wherein the vertical grid wire intersects the plurality of horizontal grid wires, but does not intersect the first side element, second side element; or top element.

Battery grid

A battery grid includes a frame that includes a top element, a bottom element, a first side element, and a second side element. The battery grid also includes a plurality of wires provided within the frame and defining a plurality of open areas and a current collection lug extending from the top element in a first direction. The battery grid further includes at least one feature provided in the battery grid that is configured to reduce the amount of growth of the battery grid in the first direction due to corrosion of the battery grid during the life of the battery grid.

The battery grid includes a plurality of wires provided within the frame and defining a plurality of open areas. The plurality of wires includes a plurality of linear vertical wire members which extend from the top element toward the bottom element, first side element, or second side element. At least one of the linear vertical wire members includes a discontinuity terminating the linear vertical wire member before reaching the bottom element, first side element, or second side element, the discontinuity being defined by parallel horizontal wire members defining an open space.

Case for battery cells

A thin metal film battery cell is formed by one or more plates wound in a spiral thereby forming a roll with two ends at which spiralled edges of the plates are exposed. Each end of the roll is covered by an end strap which includes a body of electrically conductive material from which a tab extends. The body contacts each convolution of the roll while leaving a portion of each convolution exposed so that an electrolyte is able to flow into the roll. The tab attached to and projecting outward from the body for making electical connection to the thin metal film battery cell.

The present invention includes a battery case and battery wherein the battery case includes a housing having a top and a bottom and wherein the housing defines a plurality of cavities that are generally octagonal in cross-section. The battery includes a housing defining octagonal shaped cavities, a terminal coupled to the housing, a top and bottom sealingly coupled to the housing, and a plurality of battery cells disposed win the cavities and electrically interconnected in series with the terminal.

Battery case for thin metal film cells

A metal oxygen-hydrogen battery having sealed cell modules with electrolyte containment and hydrogen venting. The battery includes an outer pressure vessel containing a plurality of cell modules, each having a positive and negative terminal and containing a liquid electrolyte such as potassium hydroxide. Each cell module is enclosed in a flexible sealed bag which is impervious to the flow of the electrolyte. The bag is a multi layer structure preferably composed of thermoplastic film. Each bag is provided with a vent which is permeable to the flow of hydrogen gas but impermeable to the flow of the electrolyte. Electrical leads are connected to the terminals of each cell module and extend in sealed relation through the bag.

A light weight deflection-resistant end block is provided for a battery and comprises a base member of a light weight, chemically inert and electrically resistive material which has one or more cavities adapted to receive low density, substantially rigid inserts such as honey-combed aluminum.

Composite end block for a battery

The present invention facilitates electrical transmission from a flow battery to a load along a path of minimal electrical resistance. The terminal electrode comprises a metal screen encapsulated in plastic sheets, with a non-conductive plastic frame injection molded around the periphery thereof. One or more studs are soldered to the outward facing surface of the screen.

Terminal electrode

A battery component for use in a flow battery is provided with a weld rib pattern on a planar surface thereof. The weld rib pattern includes respective weld ribs defining a sealable flow region therebetween and further includes respective flash traps disposed adjacent each of the weld ribs opposite the sealable flow region. The battery components are stacked one on top of the other and friction welded together to form a flow path within the sealable flow path region. During the welding process, the weld rib material is melted and deposited in the adjacent flash traps.

Friction welded battery component

A removable electrode protective assembly for use in a bipolar battery having common aqueous electrolyte-carrying manifolds. The protective assembly is in electrical communication with the electrolyte contained in a plurality of shunt tunnels extending through the battery and is easily removable from the battery to provide easy access to the various components of the assembly.
