A bypass switch ( ) for use in an electronic device ( ) includes a substrate ( ) on which first, second, and third terminals ( ) are mounted and an electrically conductive primary element ( ), having first and second opposing ends, mounted to a bottom surface of the substrate ( ) and electrically coupled to the first terminal ( ) at its first end and to the second terminal ( ) at its second end. The switch ( ) also includes an electrically conductive bypass element ( ), having first and second opposing ends, mounted to the bottom surface of the substrate ( ) and electrically coupled to the third terminal ( ) at its first end and vertically aligned, at its second end, with the second end of the primary element ( ). A switch actuator ( ) is mechanically coupled to the bypass element ( ), extends through the substrate ( ), and has an actuating surface ( ) accessible at a top surface, opposite the bottom surface, of the substrate ( ). A downward force exerted upon the actuating surface ( ) of the actuator ( ) forces the second end of the bypass element ( ) away from the second end of the primary element ( ), thereby electrically decoupling the bypass element ( ) and the third terminal ( ) from the first and second terminals ( ).

Tap housing

A cable television tap ( ) for receiving a forward signal including an information signal and a power signal. The tap ( ) includes a diplex filter ( ) for receiving the forward signal and for separating the information signal from the power signal at outputs of the diplex filter ( ) and a plurality of subscriber ports ( ) coupled to an output of the diplex filter ( ) for receiving the information signal such that the information signal can be accessed at each of the plurality of subscriber ports ( ). The tap ( ) also includes a removable port device ( ) coupled to the other output of the diplex filter ( ) for receiving the power signal, and the port device ( ) has a connector ( ) so that the power signal can be accessed. According to the present invention, when the port device ( ) is coupled to the tap ( ), the information signal can only be accessed at the subscriber ports ( ), and the power signal can only be accessed at the connector ( ) of the port device ( ). This provides a way to separately transmit the information signal and the power signal over the subscriber property to the subscriber.

A connector (100) includes at least one electrical lead for electrically coupling a first device (100) to a second device (210), a base (110) through which the electrical lead (105) extends, and an upper portion (150) through which the electrical lead (105) also extends. A spring mechanism (135) mechanically couples the base (110) and the upper portion (150) and holds the base (110) away from the upper portion (150), and the upper portion (150) includes an upper guide (145) having a hole formed therein. When the connector (100) is in an open position (in which the connector (100) is electrically inactive), the electrical lead (105) does not extend through the hole in the upper guide (150). When the connector (100) is in a closed position (in which the connector (100) is electrically active), the electrical lead (105) extends through the hole in the upper guide (145).
