A method performed by at least one processing unit comprises receiving a selection of a control volume associated with a physical system; receiving selections of a time dependent potential variable for the transported property and a time dependent flow variable for the transported property; receiving at least one fluid flow equation; determining an advection process; determining a diffusion process; determining a time dependent scaling factor based on at least the advection process and the diffusion process; deriving a rescaled transport flow equation for the time dependent flow variable for the transported property by adding the advection process and the diffusion process, and by applying the time dependent scaling factor for normalization; solving a plurality of equations that include the fluid flow equation and the rescaled transport flow equation; deriving the time dependent flow variable for the transported property; and deriving the time dependent potential variable for the transported property.

Methods and systems for modeling fluid property transport in physical systems

A graphical model may include a plurality of graphical objects representing physical elements, and connections between graphical objects may be represented by physical connection lines. A set of physical connections between two or more graphical objects may be configured as belonging to a group. A switching unit may toggle the graphical model between a single-line display mode and a multi-line display mode. In the multi-line display mode, each of the individual physical connection lines linking two or more graphical objects are displayed in the model. In response to user or other input, the switching unit may redraw the graphical model in single line mode in which the individual physical connections configured as a group are replaced with a single, composite connection line. The graphical model may be executable to simulate the physical system, and the execution may be unaffected by the display mode.

Configurable composite connector

A device receives information associated with a physical network, and creates a thermal fluid model, based on the information and with a technical computing environment (TCE), the thermal fluid model including at least a first block, a second block, and a node connecting the first block and the second block. The device calculates a first convection power flux for the first block and a second convection power flux for the second block, and calculates a first conduction power flux for the first block and a second conduction power flux for the second block. The device adds the first convection power flux and the first conduction power flux to determine a first power flux, and adds the second convection power flux and the second conduction power flux to determine a second power flux. The device outputs the first power flux and the second power flux.

Thermal fluid modeling with physical network approach and using conduction and convection

In an embodiment, a network may represent a physical system. The network may have an element that represents an entity of the physical system. A value of a state associated with the network may be identified (e.g., generated) using various techniques. The state may be a low-level state associated with the network. The techniques may include, but are not limited to, for example, generating the value based on a scaffold defined for the network, generating the value based on a target value for the state, and/or generating the value based on applying an operation to various values of the state. The identified value may be associated with an identifier. The identifier may distinguish the value, for example, from other values of other states in the network and/or other values of states in other networks.

Managing dynamic state of a physical system

In an embodiment, an element, that represents an entity in a system, is generated. The generated element may be incorporated in a network that represents the system. The generated element may include geometry information about a geometry of the entity. The geometry information may be used in one or more computations associated with a simulation or an analysis of the system. The element may have a frame port that exposes a frame. The frame may represent at least a position and an orientation in a two dimensional or three dimensional space with respect to another frame in the network. The other frame in the network may be a reference frame that may be defined by a 'world' that the system resides in. The generated element may be incorporated into the network by connecting the frame port to the network.

Representing geometry of a system in a modeling environment

A diagnostic catheter and method of use for analyzing tissue is provided. A method for analyzing tissue in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention includes inserting a catheter having a sensor at its distal end into the body of a patient, applying suction through the catheter to secure the tissue to the catheter and then analyzing the tissue with the sensor. An apparatus for analyzing tissue within the body of a patient in accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present invention is also provided. This alternative embodiment includes a catheter having a first end and a second end, the first end having an orifice and a sensor, the catheter also having a lumen.

Diagnostic catheter using a vacuum for tissue positioning

A self propelling catheter introducer system for exploring a body cavity is disclosed which includes a flexible tubular catheter, an everting tube and a steering section located near the distal end of the catheter that is introduced in a body cavity. The steering section is adapted for pointing the distal end in a desired direction using a plurality of rods adapted to be extended and retracted.

Catheter introducer system for exploration of body cavities

A device may include communication logic to receive a request to perform an activity on behalf of a client, where the activity is related to a primary application and a secondary application. The communication logic may send a response that allows the client to perform the activity when the client is authorized. The device may include evaluation logic to determine whether the client is related to the primary license and to determine whether a secondary license related to the secondary application is available. The evaluation logic may allocate the available secondary license to the client for use with the secondary application when the secondary license is available. The evaluation logic may authorize the client to perform the activity when the secondary license is allocated to the client.

Parameter based operation

A flexible composite tube for medical applications is described. The tube has the ability to transmit a torque and to resist compression, tension, and kinking. The tube is also very flexible in bending, and has a small wall thickness. Different layers are used to obtain the desired properties. Torsional stiffness is obtained by embedding a braid in an elastomeric material. Resistance to kinks and to compression and tension is obtained by placing coils radially inward or outward of the braid. Smooth plastic layers are used to seal the assembly, and facilitate sliding in a body cavity.

Composite flexible tube for medical applications

A catheter introducer system for endoscopy includes a steering section and a propulsion section located near the end of the catheter that is introduced in a body cavity. The propulsion section is designed to pull the rest of the catheter inside the body cavity, so there is no need to push the catheter along. The propulsion section includes a distal and proximal gripper portion, each of which includes a suction ring extending circumferentially around the catheter. Each suction ring can include a plurality of suction holes disposed either on a recessed portion of the suction ring or on a portion surrounded by a peripheral ridge extending above the outer surface of the suction ring. The suction ring can also include an inflatable member for urging tissue against the perimeter of the suction holes.

The present invention relates to an endoscopic visioning system and related method for both forward and backward viewing of a body lumen. According to an embodiment, the system includes an endoscope, a vision head including a light source and a vision chip on both a proximal and a distal side of the vision head, and an extension arm for moving the vision head away from and back toward the endoscope. Alternatively, the light source and vision chip may be contained in a distal end of the endoscope. In such an alternative embodiment, the vision head is a parabolic mirror mounted on the extension arm for reflecting images, for example, from behind the distal end of the endoscope to the vision chip in the distal end of the endoscope to permit, for example, a retrograde view of the surgical site entrance.

Endoscopic vision system

The invention in certain aspects relates to a surgical fastener for fastening tissue segments having tissue surfaces. The fastener includes a first fastener member having a base and a piercing element connected to the base for piercing the tissue segments to be fastened, a second fastener member having an opening for receiving and retaining the piercing element of the first fastener member such that the tissue segments to be fastened are retained between the first and second fastening members, and means for promoting adhesion between the tissue surfaces. The invention also relates to related methods and devices for promoting adhesion of tissue segments and preventing fastener migration, especially in an endoscopic procedure for the treatment of GERD.
