A joint prosthesis, as a replacement for a ball and socket type joint, has a head that allows for infinite dialability and/or angular orientation with respect to an implanted stem, particularly during a procedure for implanting the prosthesis. The angular orientation is positionable and fixed or locked in a set position without utilizing external or separate fasteners. An expandable conjoining member associated with the prosthesis stem receives the head and allows for the positioning thereof. The expandable conjoining member is fixed in position through expansion of the expandable conjoining member to produce a friction fit (wedging) of the expandable conjoining member within a receiving socket of the stem. Expansion of the expandable conjoining member is achieved through coupling interaction of a stem of the head with the conjoining member.

Joint prosthesis having infinitely adjustable head

A kit and associated method is for implanting a prosthetic device in a resected bone such as a humerus. The kit includes a trial assembly including a trial body portion having a trial bore defined therein, and a trial head portion having (i) a trail head member which includes a trial offset indicia, and (ii) an eccentrically located trial stem extending from the trial head member, the trial head stem being configured to be received within the trial bore. The kit also includes a final prosthesis assembly including a final body portion having a final bore defined therein, and a final head portion having (i) a final head member which includes a final offset indicia, and (ii) an eccentrically located final head stem extending from the final head portion, the final head stem being configured to be received within the final bore.

Device and method for positioning an eccentric humeral head of a humerus prosthesis for a shoulder arthroplasty

An adjustable humeral cutting guide for defining a cutting plane for a saw in a bone using a positioning structure includes a clamp, a saw guide, and an orientable coupling. The clamp is configured to be secured to the positioning structure. The saw guide includes a slot formed therein and formed to cooperate with a saw and limit the saw to cutting in a specific plane. The orientable coupling is mounted to the clamp and the saw guide. The orientable coupling is configured to adjust the saw guide at a selectable anterior/posterior angle and a selectable medial/lateral angle.

Adjustable humeral cutting guide

A medical procedure includes providing a prosthesis which includes (i) a body portion having a rear surface and a bearing surface, and (ii) an anchor peg including a shaft extending from the rear surface of the body portion, wherein the anchor peg includes a plurality of outwardly extending fins secured to the shaft, and further wherein the plurality of outwardly extending fins each possesses a first diameter. The medical procedure further includes creating an anchor hole in a natural bone, the anchor hole possessing a second diameter which is less than the first diameter. In addition, the method procedure includes positioning the anchor peg within the anchor hole so that each of the plurality of outwardly extending fins deforms so as to possess (i) a concave side which faces an open end of the anchor hole, and (ii) a convex side that faces a closed end of the anchor hole.

Method for securing a glenoid component to a scapula

A shoulder prosthesis of the present invention includes a modular humeral prosthesis component employing a collarless design. A body portion of the prosthesis is provided without a collar, and it may be implanted into a prepared proximal end of a humerus such that the body sits recessed below the level of the cut proximal surface of the humerus. A head portion is provided in which a support surface of the head functions as collar by direct apposition of it to the cut proximal humerus. The modular connection is thus recessed below the proximal bone surface. By providing a modular connection which is recessed below the bone surface, the benefits of modularity may be retained, while joint overstuffing may be reduced or eliminated, and a substantially full range of motion may be achieved.

Collarless shoulder arthroplasty prosthesis

A humeral component of a shoulder prosthesis includes a stem configured for implantation within the humerus. A reverse articulating component is mounted to the stem by a connection mechanism. The reverse component defines a substantially concave bearing surface. The bearing surface is part of a bearing member that is engaged to a support member that is associated with the connection mechanism. A kit is provided which includes differently configured bearing members and support members to allow intraoperative selection and assembly of an optimum articulating component.

Reverse-type humeral prosthesis

A humeral prosthesis allows a surgeon to adjust humeral head position thereof in three-dimensional space with respect to a humeral component of the humeral prosthesis that has been either previously implanted into a humerus of a patient or not. The humeral prosthesis includes a conjoining component that is configured to releasably mate with the humeral component and to releasably mate with a humeral head. The conjoining component allows the humeral head to be selectively positionable from continuously infinite positions about two orthographic axes with respect to the conjoining component. The selected spatial position of the head is locked by a locking member of the conjoining component. The conjoining component allows the use of various sized heads, allow in vivo head trialing and/or exchange, and retrofit of heads for previously implanted shoulder prosthesis in need of revision.

Shoulder prosthesis having infinitely adjustable humeral head

The humeral portion of a shoulder prosthesis includes a diaphyseal component configured for fixation within the humerus, a metaphyseal component, configured for removable implantation within the metaphysis of the humerus, and an engagement mechanism for removably engaging the two components. The metaphyseal component can initially include a convex articulating surface that can be replaced with a concave surface during the shoulder arthroplasty procedure or in a subsequent revision surgery. The metaphyseal component can also include a feature to facilitate removal of the component from the bone once it has been disengaged from the diaphyseal component.

Humeral shoulder prosthesis

A modular glenoid assembly is provided for attachment to a glenoid surface of a scapula. The modular glenoid assembly includes a base adapted to couple with the glenoid surface and a bearing insert. The base includes a lip that defines a channel. The bearing insert includes a bearing surface adapted to engage a head portion of a humeral component and a tab. The tab is formed to be received within the channel and engage the lip when the insert is moved in a superior direction into position against the base.
