A vehicle suspension system may include a deadbeam extended between a first wheel at a first end of the deadbeam and a second wheel at a second end of the deadbeam, an electric motor disposed forward of the deadbeam, a lateral link operably coupling the deadbeam to a chassis of the vehicle, a first half shaft operably coupled to the first wheel and the electric motor, a second half shaft operably coupled to the second wheel and the electric motor, a first suspension assembly operably coupling the first wheel to the chassis, and a second suspension assembly operably coupling the second wheel to the chassis.

An inner mandrel for forming a variable taper component includes a plurality of interlocking pieces and a brace. Each interlocking piece defines opposed tapered edge faces, a first surface, and a tapered second surface opposite the first surface. One of the edge faces defines a locking feature and another of the edge faces defines a receiving feature engaging the locking feature of an adjacent interlocking piece. The first surface defines a variable taper and a plurality of recesses. The brace secures the plurality of interlocking pieces to each other in a concentric arrangement about a central axis. A maximum width of each of the interlocking pieces is smaller than a minimum width of an end portion of the variable taper component. A central portion of the variable taper component is wider than the end portions.

A method for producing a motor vehicle axle component includes the method steps of providing a metal strip made of a hardenable steel material, hot rolling the metal strip and subsequent cold rolling with more than 4% rolling reduction degree, annealing at 600 to 800&#xb0; C., in particular at 650 to 750&#xb0; C. for a time period between 10 and 20 hours, in particular 13 to 17 hours, cutting the heat treated metal strip to cut sheet metals, forming the metal cut into a motor vehicle axle component, austenizing and quenching the motor vehicle axle component, wherein the motor vehicle axle component has at least in a surface region a grain size characteristic value according to ASTM-E 112 of greater than 9.

A novel steerable solid axle suspension system capable of eliminating the need for steering dampers includes a solid axle (12) suspended from a vehicle frame (14) by leaf spring assemblies (48) and right and left shock absorbers (30, 38). The suspension also includes a track bar (140) laterally connecting the solid axle (12) to the frame (14). The suspension also includes a steering gear (132) having a pitman arm (130) connected to a drag link (128). The drag link (128) extends downwardly to connect to a tie rod (122) which extends between and interconnects first and second steering knuckles (24, 22).
