A projection system includes: an illumination source configured to output illumination light; a phase light modulator (PLM) optically coupled to the illumination source, the PLM configured to: receive the illumination light; phase modulate the illumination light while displaying a phase hologram, to produce modulated light; and projection optics coupled to the PLM, the projection optics configured to receive the modulated light and to project an image responsive to the modulated light; wherein both a mean in intensity and a variance in intensity in bright regions of the projected image is greater than the mean intensity and the variance in intensity in dark regions of the projected image.

In some examples, a method includes serializing, via a processor, image data for a first image to form serialized data mapped to RBG pixels of a second image, the image data in a format other than a RGB pixel format. The method also includes transmitting, by the processor, the serialized data via RGB signaling lines.

Compressed chip to chip transmission

A system includes a memory and a display. The system also includes a processor coupled to the memory and to the display. The processor is configured to obtain an image and determine a parent cluster of pixels of an image having a centroid. The processor is also configured to split the parent cluster into at least a first child cluster and a second child cluster and assign a pixel of the image to the first child cluster. Additionally, the pixel is configured to update a centroid of the first child cluster responsive to the pixel and replace the pixel in the image with the centroid of the first child cluster to produce a compressed image. Also, the processor is configured to store the compressed image in the memory, where the display is configured to display the compressed image.

Parent-child cluster compression

A system includes a spatial light modulator (SLM) and a circuit including a processor. The SLM includes pixel elements. The circuit is configured to convert M primary video signals to N multi-primary video signals. The circuit is configured to use a first multi-primary video signal to derive a first additive offset to a first primary video signal, to use the first multi-primary video signal to derive a second additive offset to a second primary video signal of the M primary video signals, to add the first additive offset to the first primary video signal, to add the second additive offset to the second primary video signal, and to derive a bit plane based on the first primary signal having the first additive offset added thereto and to transmit the bit plane to the SLM to selectively control on and off states of the pixel elements of the SLM.

System and method for color processing

An apparatus includes a focusing lens, a SLM optically coupled to the focusing lens and comprising micromirrors on a surface of the SLM, where the focusing lens is tilted at an incident angle relative to the surface of the SLM, an incident light beam is illuminated on the SLM at the incident angle, and the incident angle is greater by an offset angle than twice a tilt angle of the micromirrors with respect to the surface of the SLM. The apparatus also includes an actuator optically coupled to the SLM, and projection optics optically coupled to the actuator.

An example apparatus includes: a controller configured to: generate a pattern of points; obtain a first image of a first reflection of a projection of the pattern of points from a first camera; generate a first point cloud having a first coordinate system based on the first image; obtain a second image of a second reflection of the projection of the pattern of points from a second camera; generate a second point cloud having a second coordinate system based on the second image; determine a rigid body transform to convert coordinates of the second coordinate system to coordinates of the first coordinate system; apply the rigid body transform to the second point cloud to generate a transformed point cloud; and generate a corrected point cloud based on the transformed point cloud.

Methods and apparatus for camera assisted geometric correction

Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to warp images for video processing. An example device includes horizontal warper circuitry configured to access an input image, decimate a first set of pixels in the input image by row, and interpolate a second set of pixels in the input image by row to produce a horizontally warped image. The example device further includes vertical warper circuitry configured to access the horizontally warped image, decimate a first set of pixels in the horizontally warped image by column, and interpolate a second set of pixels in the horizontally warped image by column to produce an output image.

Methods and apparatus to warp images with decimation and interpolation

An apparatus includes a parser configured to decimate a source image to produce a decimated image according to a pre-distortion geometry for the source image, and partition the decimated image into image portions according to a first clock rate. The apparatus includes warping engines coupled to the parser and configured to pre-distort, according to a second clock rate, respective image portions to produce respective pre-distorted image portions according to the pre-distortion geometry. The apparatus also includes a combiner coupled to the warping engines and configured to combine the pre-distorted image portions, according to the first clock rate, to form a pre-distorted image of the source image. The apparatus further includes a processor configured to process the pre-distorted image to produce a processed image for projection by a light modulator and one or more light sources.

Parallelized digital image warping

An apparatus includes a first camera configured to capture a first image being displayed, a second camera configured to capture a second image being displayed, and a processor configured to generate a pair-wise homography transform for the first camera and the second camera, and map, based on the pair-wise homography transform, the second image from a second frame of reference of the second camera to a first frame of reference of the first camera. The processor is further configured to determine a first corrected quadrilateral for the first image and a second corrected quadrilateral for the second image in the first frame of reference, and project, based on the pair-wise homography transform, the second corrected quadrilateral from the first frame of reference to the second frame of reference. The quadrilaterals are then processed to warp respective images for geometric correction before projecting the images by respective projectors.

System and method for projector geometric correction

A controller includes a frame memory configured to store an image frame, a frame memory controller coupled to the frame memory and configured to obtain image data from the image frame. The image data is associated with a color component of the image frame. The controller also includes a dither noise mask generator configured to provide dither noise masks according to dither noise levels for the image data, and a bit plane generator coupled to the frame memory controller and the dither noise mask generator and configured to generate bit planes based on the dither noise masks for the image data.

Bit plane dithering apparatus

A device includes a memory and at least one processor coupled to the memory. The at least one processor is configured to obtain an image and determine a parent cluster of pixels of an image having a centroid. The at least one processor is also configured to split the parent cluster into at least a first child cluster and a second child cluster and assign a pixel of the image to the first child cluster. Additionally, the at least one processor is configured to update a centroid of the first child cluster based at least in part on the pixel, replace the pixel in the image with the centroid of the first child cluster to produce a compressed image, and store the compressed image in the memory.

An example apparatus comprising: a controller configured to: access a content brightness map; determine an amplitude of a light emitting diode (LED) current based on the content brightness map, a target brightness, or a target color temperature; determine a pulse width modulation (PWM) sequence based on the content brightness map, the target brightness, or the target color temperature; determine an LED PWM signal based on the content brightness map, the target brightness, the target color temperature, or the amplitude of the LED current; transmit a signal indicating the LED current to an LED; transmit the PWM sequence to a spatial light modulator (SLM); and transmit the LED PWM signal to the LED.

Methods and apparatus for a self-calibrating and adaptive display

A system having a color filter having first and second segments. The first and second segments allow respective first and second wavelengths to pass through to a spatial light modulator. The first and second segments also reflect second and first wavelengths, respectively. The reflected first and second wavelengths are recycled and directed towards the color filter.

Digital display system and method

In described examples, a system (e.g., a security system or a vehicle operator assistance system) is configured to configure a phased spatial light modulator (SLM) to generate a diffraction pattern. A coherent light source is optically coupled to direct coherent light upon the SLM. The SLM is configured to project diffracted coherent light toward a region of interest. An optical element is configured to focus the diffracted coherent light toward the at least one region of interest.
