A coupling facility is coupled to one or more other coupling facilities via one or more peer links. The coupling of the facilities enables various functions to be supported, including the duplexing of structures of the coupling facilities. Duplexing is performed on a structure basis, and thus, a coupling facility may include duplexed structures, as well as non-duplexed or simplexed structures.

Techniques are provided for storing files in a parallel computing system based on a user-specification. A plurality of files generated by a distributed application in a parallel computing system are stored by obtaining a specification from the distributed application indicating how the plurality of files should be stored; and storing one or more of the plurality of files in one or more storage nodes of a multi-tier storage system based on the specification. The plurality of files comprise a plurality of complete files and/or a plurality of sub-files. The specification can optionally be processed by a daemon executing on one or more nodes in a multi-tier storage system. The specification indicates how the plurality of files should be stored, for example, identifying one or more storage nodes where the plurality of files should be stored.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for stream processing with contextual data affinity. One of the methods includes receiving an event at a computing node of a stream processing system that includes one or more computing nodes and data representing a topology of functional modules. At a particular functional module of the topology, an operation that requests access to context data related to the event is determined based on a data attribute of the event. The context data is partitioned among the one or more computing nodes. Context data related to the event is obtained from the computing node. The operation of the particular functional module is processed using the context data, and a modified event is generated. The modified event is provided to a subsequent functional module according to the topology of functional modules.

In one aspect, a processing device of the information processing system comprises a processor coupled to a memory. The processing device implements a controller configured to coordinate interaction of each of multiple sync point components of the information processing system with distributed virtual infrastructure of the information processing system. The controller is coupled between each of the sync point components and the distributed virtual infrastructure. The controller may comprise, for example, a sync point coordinator having a schedule optimization module, and the sync point components may include, for example, a throughput scheduler, a resource manager, a job management system and a snapshot management system.

An information processing system includes a processing platform comprising at least one processing device having a processor coupled to a memory. The processing platform implements a complex asset capture/revert module. The capture/revert module comprises a persistence state machine and a reversion state machine. The capture/revert module is configured to coordinate capture via the persistence state machine of respective states of a plurality of complex assets of distributed information technology infrastructure of the information processing system, and subsequently to coordinate revert via the reversion state machine of at least a given one of the complex assets to its corresponding captured state.

An application is included in a virtual machine sent to a cloud computing server. The cloud computing server has a remote access layer that fetches data blocks of the private dataset of the application from private data storage as the data blocks are requested by the application, so that the application in the public cloud begins execution without waiting for the entire application dataset to be transferred to the public cloud, and the data blocks are transferred from the private dataset to the public cloud only when the data blocks are accessed by the application. The application's private data is kept in the public cloud only when it is currently being used. If there are security concerns, the application's private data is transferred over the public network in an encrypted form and stored in the public cloud in an encrypted form.

Methods and apparatus provide for an event identity manager that defines a topology of resources. The topology of resources represents relationships amongst the resources in a data center and each of the resources comprises resource attributes described in a data model. The event manager acquires event data describing an event that occurred amongst the resources. In addition, the event data comprises a format that is incompatible with the data model. The event manager correlates the event data with the data model in order to determine a locus of the event data within the topology of resources, the locus of the event data being a resource where the event is most likely associated.

The configuration of the logical processors of a logical partition is managed dynamically. A logical partition is initially configured with one or more logical processors. Thereafter, the configuration can be dynamically adjusted. This dynamic adjustment may be in response to workload of the logical partition.
