An authenticity accuracy, corresponding to a personal identification number, is determined. A device presents a correct image (or group of images) and an incorrect image (or group of images). Selections from a user are received until a sufficient number of correct images are selected to satisfy the authenticity accuracy. For example, a counter may be incremented when the correct image is selected, and the user may be considered to be authenticated if the counter reaches a sufficient level.

A content delivery system using social affine targeting may include a device that determines, based on presence information received from mobile devices, users in a vicinity of an electronic billboard. The device may further determine, based on user behavior information relating to the users, affinities of the users; and determine commonality of the affinities of the users. Still further, the device may select, based on the determined commonality of the affinities, one or more advertisements to present by the electronic billboard; and transmit the selected one or more advertisements to the electronic billboard.

Disclosed is a method and device for finding documents, such as Web pages, for presentation to a user, automatically or in response to a user expression of interest, which documents are part of a Web site being accessed by the user, and which documents relate to a document, such as a Web page, being accessed in the Web site. The method takes advantage of information retrieval techniques. The method generates the search query to use to find documents by reference to the text of the document in the Web site being accessed by the user. The method further uses a weighting function to weigh the terms used in the search query.

Techniques for web site integration

An approach is provided for facilitating the delivery of content to a device through activation of an indicator executable on the device. One or more user devices are determined to receive the content from a content delivery platform using an electronic directory service. An application to provide an indicator representing the content is pushed to the device for initiating a request for the content from the device. In response to the request, a determination is made as to whether to grant the request for delivery of the content to the device.

Persistent network-based electronic transaction services

Disclosed is a system for performing online data queries. The system for performing online data queries is a distributed computer system with a plurality of server nodes each fully redundant and capable of processing a user query request. Each server node includes a data query cache and other caches that may be used in performing data queries. The data query, as well as request allocation, is performed in accordance with an adaptive partitioning technique with a bias towards an initial partitioning scheme. Generic objects are created and used to represent business listings upon which the user may perform queries. Various data processing and integration techniques are included which enhance data queries. An update technique is used for synchronizing data updates as needed in updating the plurality of server nodes. A multi-media data transfer technique is used to transfer non-text or multi-media data between various components of the online query tool. Optimizations for searching, such as the common term optimization, are included for those commonly performed data queries. Also disclosed is a system for targeting advertisements that are displayed to a user of the system.

Targeted banner advertisements

This invention provides methods and apparatus for context based querying to more efficiently provide directory services. In particular, methods and apparatus for querying a database to resolve contact information, e.g., a phone number, based on the context of the query are provided. By querying based on context, the query may be searched using a smaller field of search. Moreover, a context based query allows private phone numbers to be provided when the context of the query has been authenticated and approved for disclosure of the private phone number. Thus, when processing a query for a phone number, the present invention evaluates the context of the query in addition to the query itself to determine what results to provide to a user.

Method and apparatus for context based querying

Methods and apparatus for a unified communications manager via instant messaging are provided. In particular, a user may interface with a user service center to use applications via an instant messaging service to manage various aspects of their communications such as their phone calls, voice mail, email, and instant messages. A user may also manage their contact information and profile, such as rules for how calls are forwarded to the user. Thus, a user is provided a unified communications manager to implement rules and conditions across a wide variety of devices and networks.
