A vehicle article carrier system is disclosed for supporting articles above an outer body surface of a vehicle. In one embodiment the system forms a swing-in-place style system with front and rear cross bar assemblies that can each be swung pivotally at one end from stowed positions on respective support rail assemblies, to operative positions extending perpendicularly between the support rail assemblies. In other embodiments the rear cross bar assembly is fully removable and can be positioned at a plurality of different longitudinal positions along the support rail assemblies. In all of the embodiments, the support rails include an L-shaped construction which is dimensioned in relation to the height of the cross bar assemblies, so the support rail assemblies are able to fully hide the cross bar assemblies from view when the cross bar assemblies are in their stowed positions. This provides an extremely clean looking aesthetic appearance, as well as significantly improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the system.

The present disclosure relates to a vehicle article carrier system for supporting articles above an outer body surface of a vehicle. The system makes use of a pair of support rails fixedly secured generally parallel to one another on the outer body surface, and at least one cross bar assembly clampable to the support rails, and having a cross bar element having opposing ends. First and second end supports are secured at the opposing ends and able to engage the support rails to secure the cross bar against movement on the support rails. At least one of the end supports includes fixed and movable jaw portions, an actuating lever, and a pivot component pivotally coupled to the actuating lever and including a bore. A barrel nut is positioned in a bore of the movable jaw portion. A threaded member is coupled to both the barrel nut and the pivot component for changing an effective distance between the bore of the movable jaw portion and the pivot component, to thus effectively change a clamping force able to be applied by the movable jaw portion relative to the fixed jaw portion when the actuating lever is moved into a closed position.

A vehicle article carrier is disclosed which has a first pair of support elements and a second pair of support elements secured to an outer body surface of a vehicle. A pair of cross bar assemblies may be secured in either stowed orientations, in which the cross bar assemblies are each secured to one of the first pair of support elements and one of the second pair of support elements, or an operative configuration in which one of the cross bar assemblies is secured to the first pair of support elements while the other is secured to the second pair of support elements. One of the cross bar assemblies may be pivotally attached at one end to one of the support elements enabling it to be swung between its stowed and operative positions. The other cross bar assembly may be fully removable from the support elements, and may be attached in two different locations on the second pair of support elements.

The present disclosure relates to a low profile, highly aerodynamic swing-in-place style vehicle article carrier system for use on a wide variety of passenger cars and trucks. The system makes use of a pair of side rails that are used to support a pair of cross bars in stowed positions thereon where the cross bars are secured parallel to the side rails, or in operative positions where the cross bars are secured perpendicularly between the side rails. The side rails each incorporate a rotating end support subsystem which automatically elevates one end of its associated cross bar when the cross bar is moved pivotally into its operative position. This enables the cross bars to form a very low profile when in their stowed positions, but to be automatically raised a predetermined distance when moved into their operative positions, to thus provide additional clearance between the cross bars and an outer body surface of the vehicle.

A cargo supporting and restraining system is disclosed for use within a cargo area of a vehicle. The system may have a pair of support rails fixedly secured to opposing interior wall surfaces of a pair of sidewalls of a vehicle cargo area. A load bar assembly may be used which has a generally U-shaped frame, and which is supported for sliding movement and adjustable positioning along the support rails. A locking system may be associated with the load bar assembly for locking the load bar assembly at a desired longitudinal position along the support rails. A cargo box assembly may also be provided which is removably secured to the load bar assembly. A locking assembly is operably associated with the cargo box assembly for locking the cargo box to the load bar assembly to prevent removal of the cargo box assembly.

The present disclosure relates to a vehicle article carrier apparatus for securing articles above an outer body surface of a vehicle. The apparatus may make use of a pair of low profile support rails fixedly secured generally parallel to one another on the outer body surface. A pair of cross bars may be configured to be coupled to the support rails in a stowed orientation extending parallel to the support rails, so as to be generally not visible from a side of the vehicle, and an operative orientation extending perpendicularly between the support rails and elevationally above the support rails for supporting articles thereon.

The present disclosure relates to an article carrier system particularly adapted for use with a pickup truck. The system employs a first pair of support tracks secured to a roof surface of a pickup truck, and a rear spoiler portion coupled to each of the first support tracks and extending therebetween adjacent a rear area of the roof surface. A second pair of support tracks is secured to a pair of truck bed sidewalls. A combination spoiler/support subsystem is supported from the second pair of support tracks and is adjustably positionable to provide a variable spacing between the rear spoiler portion and the spoiler/support subsystem, to thus tailor the system to support articles of various lengths thereon. The rear spoiler portion and the spoiler/support subsystem provide an appearance of a single, integrated spoiler when positioned closely adjacent one another.

A vehicle article carrier system is disclosed for carrying articles above an outer body surface of a vehicle. The system may incorporate at least one support rail secured to the outer body surface. The support rail may have a support foot portion at each of its opposite ends, with each support foot portion secured to the outer body surface of the vehicle. A sensor may be mounted on the at least one support rail or one of the support feet portions for sensing a characteristic within a field of view around the vehicle and providing related information to a subsystem of the vehicle.

The present disclosure relates to a vehicle accessory component for a vehicle. The component makes use of a structural member having a channel. The structural member is attachable to the vehicle. A modular light assembly is included which has a frame and at least one optical element secured to the frame. Electrical cabling couples the optical element to a power source. The frame is insertable into the channel in the structural member and supported within the channel. The frame has at least one opening over which the optical element is positioned when the modular light assembly is inserted into the channel. This allows the optical element to provide illumination to an area adjacent the vehicle when the optical element is powered on.

The present disclosure relates to a system readily configurable for use as either a step rail along a side of a motor vehicle, or also as a loading ramp for use in loading and unloading cargo to and from a cargo bed of the motor vehicle. The system makes use of a ramp assembly and a plurality of hangers. The hangers each have a first end which is affixed to a portion of the vehicle, and a second end on which the ramp assembly may releasably be supported from and secured to, and thus used as a step rail. The ramp assembly has at least one latching mechanism that can be secured to a striker post on one of the hangers, and a release element. The release element allows the ramp assembly to be detached from the striker post and used as a loading ramp.

The present disclosure relates to a cross bar for a vehicle article carrier that may be releasably secured to a support rail. The cross bar has an end support at each end thereof for securing the cross bar to the support rail. Each end support has a main body configured to engage with a portion of the support rail, an opening in the main body, and a latching element moveably supported from the main body. A threaded member is used for controlling engagement of the latching member with the support rail. The threaded member has a head portion which engages with portions of a spring clip secured in the opening. This helps prevent loosening of the threaded member after it has been tightened.

A vehicle article carrier system is disclosed for carrying articles above an outer body surface of a vehicle. At least one support rail is secured to the outer body surface. The support rail uses a support foot at each of its opposite ends, with each support foot being adapted to be secured to the outer body surface of the vehicle. A solar panel is used for collecting solar energy. A battery is used for storing electrical energy created using the collected solar energy. A light is powered by the battery, with the light forming an integral portion of the support rail.

The present disclosure relates to a cargo management system for use in a cargo area of a motor vehicle. The system may have a floor pan configured to be fixedly secured to a surface of the cargo area and a back wall. The back wall may be pivotally secured to the floor pan adjacent an edge of the floor pan. At least first and second divider wall panels may be provided which are each pivotally secured to the back wall and spaced apart from one another. Each may be moveable between a collapsed orientation, wherein the plurality of divider wall panels rest parallel and closely adjacent a surface of the floor pan, and an upright orientation wherein each of the divider wall panels, along with the back wall, form at least one compartment for containing cargo items therein.

A tailgate stowage system is disclosed for use with a motor vehicle having a door-like element. The stowage system involves the use of a bin having a bin lid and a bin body hingedly connected to the bin lid. The bin lid may be opened to permit access to an interior area of the bin body, and may be closed to contain at least one component within the stowage bin. The bin lid and bin body form a compartment when the bin lid is in a closed orientation to enable the component to be stowed therein. At least one mounting latch may be used for securing the bin within the recess of the tailgate, and which permits removal of the bin from the recess without the use of external tools.

A vehicle article may have cross bars that may be nestably secured together on a trunk lid of a vehicle when not in use, and yet quickly and easily attached to elements mounted in roof ditches on the roof of the vehicle when needed for use. In another embodiment the vehicle article carrier includes a pair of pivotally secured support rails that are supported from frame or body structure of the vehicle below and adjacent the rear bumper of the vehicle. The support rails may be pivoted into stowed positions when not needed to hide them from view, and then quickly and easily pivoted out when needed for use. Attachments such as a cargo box or a bicycle carrier may be easily secured to the support rails.
