An HVAC system and method for digital communication timing discovery over a two wire connection. The HVAC system comprises a thermostat and at least one remote sensor unit comprising at least one sensor with an associated memory. The thermostat comprises a communication interface adapted to be connected to the remote sensor unit via a two-wire connection over a communication channel. The thermostat further comprises a controller adapted to perform a communication timing discovery to determine a communicating timing value that minimizes communication error rates for each sensor of the remote sensor unit by performing an iterative communication error rate detection operation over a range of timing values. The thermostat controller uses the determined communication timing value for communicating with the respective sensor during normal operation to receive sensor information.

Digital communication timing discovery over a two wire connection

Systems, devices, and methods for automatically forming a wireless personal area network (PAN) comprising a network auto-formation (NAF) process. At least one network coordinating device initializes a PAN and transmits at least one beacon comprising PAN information. A network joining device performs a number of scan/listen cycles by actively scanning a plurality of wireless channels for PANs by masking out channels in a scan channel mask, and listening for beacons on channels in a listen channel list. The scan channel mask and the listen channel list are updated during each scan/listen cycle. The scan channel mask may comprise channels containing desired PANs, non-desired PANs, and channels on which beacons were heard. The listen channel list may comprise channels containing desired PANs and channels on which beacons were heard. The NAF process further comprises receiving PAN information included in heard beacons and attempting to join the best network based on the PAN information.

Automatic wireless network formation

Provided herein is a system and method for determining the status of one or more wireless communication links in a network such as a personal area network. One or more nodes within the PAN substantially continuously monitor a plurality of quality of service (QoS) communication indicators and generate a first application link quality indicator (ALQI) based on a first subset of the plurality of QoS communication indicators according to a first time period. The node can then modify the first ALQI with a second subset of the plurality of QoS communication indicators only when a first predetermined threshold number of occurrences of the second subset of the plurality of QoS communication indicators has occurred without regard to the first time period to form a first modified ALQI. The node can then report the modified ALQI to a coordinator node that can then act upon the modified ALQI to possibly correct one or more communication link problems to which the reported ALQI pertains to.

Wireless communication link debugging

A device joining a wireless network performs a scan and acquire procedure to discover the optimal node in the desired network. The joining device scans all desired channels for a predetermined amount of time. During the scan, the joining device builds a table of discovered networks ranked and truncated according to proximity. Additionally, the joining device curates the list to ensure that only the optimal node from each network is listed. The joining device then attempts to join networks according to the table of discovered networks.
