A method of managing communications received by a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) terminating at a residence associated with a subscriber is disclosed. The DSL is divided into one baseband line, one or more derived lines and a data connection. A query is received from a Service Control Point (SCP) for subscriber preferences for handling an incoming communication. The query is translated into an Internet Protocol (IP) message and communicated to a web server. A Common Gateway Interface (CGI) application module is invoked that corresponds to the particular type of communication being sent to the residence. The subscriber's preferences for handling the particular type of communication are retrieved from a database. Based on the retrieved preferences and invoked CGI application, call handling instructions are sent to the SCP.

Method of managing circuit switched and internet protocol telephone lines associated with a digital subscriber line service

At least one exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes a method comprising the activities of detecting, via a public switched telephone network, a caller's dialing of a telephone number; and after said detecting activity, and prior to call setup, providing to the caller a voicemail status notification. At least one exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes a method comprising the activities of placing a telephone call via a public switched telephone network, and receiving, via the public switched telephone network, a voicemail status notification after placing the telephone call and prior to call setup. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. Network-based notification of voice mail

A voicemail header is modified to provide caller ID information in connection with the delivery of voice mail. The header may include an audible alert signal as is used in call waiting to alert a caller ID box in the customer's premises that caller ID information follows. The caller ID information is then delivered as FSK signaling information for display on the caller ID display.

Voicemail system with calling party identification

An intelligent voice message status indication device for a single line of a telephone network includes a controller that responds to caller-ID signals to detect whether a mailbox contains a message, responds to a call-waiting signal to break communication with the voicemail system during message retrieval to capture an incoming call, and toggles multiple indicators associated with respective sub-mailboxes on a single line. The message waiting indicators may include respective unique audio, as well as respective unique, visual indication of message presence in one or more mailboxes. The voicemail servers of the network may be correspondingly partitioned to host multiple mailboxes and to provide unique outbound caller IDs to identify a mailbox having a message.

A method is described for providing wired line telephone and mobile telephone cross-usage comprising the steps of de-activating call forwarding of incoming mobile telephone calls to a subscriber's home wired line telephone and for activating call forwarding of incoming wired line telephone calls to the subscriber's mobile telephone upon removal of the mobile telephone from a customer premises equipment (CPE) cradle. The method further provides for activating call forwarding of incoming mobile telephone calls to the subscriber's home wired line telephone and for de-activating call forwarding of incoming wired line telephone calls to the subscriber's mobile telephone upon placement of the mobile telephone into said CPE cradle. A customer premises equipment (CPE) cradle for providing home wired line and mobile telephone cross-usage has a conventional wired line telephone jack, an AC in plug/port, at least one connector pin, at least one charging pin, a detection switch, a support for the mobile telephone, a display and buttons unit, a charging mechanism, a detection switch and a programmable module.

Seamless re-direction of calls between home and mobile telephones

An integrated message management system that allows a subscriber to retrieve voice mail messages using a voice mail or email server, and that also updates the status of messages on both servers upon retrieval of the message from either server. The voice mail server is accessed via a local exchange carrier, whereas the email server is accessed via the Internet. The email server also notifies the subscriber of the presence of a new message. When the subscriber retrieves a voice mail message, the email server updates the status of the corresponding email message. Similarly, when a subscriber retrieves an email message, the voice mail server updates the status of the corresponding voice mail message. This eliminates the need for a subscriber to manually change the status of corresponding messages to 'clean out' a voice mail or email box when the other is accessed.
