An improved device and method for mounting an avionic system is shown. The design provides varying locations of key components, which allows a single mounting system to be used with several varieties and configurations of aircraft within the crowded confines of an instrument panel. Ranges of flexibility with this system include the ability to arrange modules horizontally, and the ability to locate the display unit vertically. The multi-dimensional mounting flexibility of the mounting system shown allows electronic modules to be mounted in close proximity to a display unit, which greatly increases accessibility of the modules over prior configurations where modules were housed in the nose of the aircraft, the rear of the aircraft, or other remote locations. Installation, repair, and replacement are all greatly simplified with this configuration.

System and method for mounting units for an avionic display

An equipment module, a module retention device, as well as a system and a method for mounting equipment modules are disclosed. The modules can be installed without tools, using the retention device. Each module includes a chassis unit which slides into a unit rack, which is in turn attached to a mounting frame. The entire assembly may be mounted to an instrument panel. The module retention device is attached to the chassis unit, typically engaging a slot on the rack. A rotating fastener secures the retention device in the engaged position. The method includes inserting an electronic module into the open end of a unit rack, sliding an engagement lug attached to a cam lever into engagement with a slot on the rack, electrically coupling a connector on the module with a connector on the rack, and attaching the rack to the mounting frame.

Electronic equipment module mounting apparatus and method

A mounting system for electronic equipment is described which includes a mounting rack, a connector plate, and a retention device. The connector plate is hingedly mounted to a rear of the mounting rack and the connector plate is configured for the mounting of connectors that mate with the connectors of the electronic equipment. The retention device is configured to hold the connector plate against a rear of the mounting plate.

Method for mounting units for an avionic display

An electronic equipment module includes a symmetrical casting with two chassis units. Each unit includes a mounting recess to receive a circuit assembly, separated by a cover applied to either unit, or both. The module is normally mounted to a unit rack, and typically has a removably attachable, re-orientable keyed surface which mates with another keyed surface on the rack. A mounting system includes a unit rack coupled to at least one electronic equipment module and a mounting frame. A method of mounting an electronic equipment module includes inserting the module into an open end of a unit rack, electrically coupling connectors attached to the module and the rack, securing the module to the rack, and attaching the rack to a mounting frame. The module can be secured to the rack by engaging a cam lever attached to the module.

Electronic equipment module apparatus and method

An electronic equipment module, as well as a system and a method for mounting electronic equipment modules are disclosed, an electronic equipment module is provided as a symmetrical casting. The electronic equipment module includes a first chassis unit which attaches to a second chassis unit. Each chassis unit has a mounting recess adapted to receive one or more circuit assemblies. The mounting recesses can be separated by a cover applied to one unit, the other unit, or both. The module is normally mounted within a unit rack, and thus, can have a removably attachable, and re-orientable keyed surface on its rear face which mates with a corresponding keyed surface on the interior surface of the unit rack. The mounting system includes a mounting frame, a plurality of electronic equipment modules, and a unit rack coupled to at least one of the electronic equipment modules and the mounting frame. The method of mounting an electronic equipment module includes inserting the module into an open end of a unit rack, electrically coupling connectors attached to the module and the interior surface of the unit rack, securing the module to the rack, and attaching the rack to the mounting frame. The module can be secured to the rack by rotating a cam lever rotatably attached to the module into an engaged position.

A data card having a retractable handle is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the data card includes an electronic data storage medium contained within a two-piece protective housing. A removable handle is slidably engaged with the housing and is movable between a stored position, wherein the handle does not extend beyond the housing, and an active position, wherein the handle is extended beyond the housing for easy manipulation by the user. In an alternative embodiment, the handle is pivotally mounted to the housing and is movable between a stored position, wherein the handle is maintained against the housing, and an active position, wherein the handle is pivotally swung away from the housing.
