A system tracks a user's search related behavior and constructs a probability model, from the user's search related behavior, to estimate a probability that the user will select a certain type of search result. The system searches sources of information based on a search query received from the user to determine a set of search results and uses the estimated probabilities to select one or more search results from the set of search results.

Personalized search results

A user's prior searching and browsing activities are recorded for subsequent use. A user may examine the user's prior searching and browsing activities in a number of different ways, including indications of the user's prior activities related to advertisements. A set of search results may be modified in accordance with the user's historical activities. The user's activities may be examined to identify a set of preferred locations. The user's set of activities may be shared with one or more other users. The set of preferred locations presented to the user may be enhanced to include the preferred locations of one or more other users. A user's browsing activities may be monitored from one or more different client devices or client application. A user's browsing volume may be graphically displayed.

Systems and methods for modifying search results based on a user's history

In one general aspect, a tangible computer-readable storage medium can be configured to store instructions that when executed cause a processor to perform a process. The instructions can include instructions to receive an indicator that at least a portion of a source message has been produced using a source module, and instructions to send to the source module, in response to the indicator, an extraction module configured to assign an attribute value to content of the source message. The attribute value can represent a contextual function of the content within the source message. The instructions can include instructions to receive a content package including the content and the attribute value assigned to the content, and produce a plurality of endpoint-specific messages associated with a plurality of endpoints based on a plurality of message templates and the attribute value assigned to the content within the content package.

Dynamic formatting of messages for multiple endpoints

Systems and methods for generating a viewer-specific visitor history for a location are provided. In particular, a visitor history for a particular viewer and location can indicate a total number of users who have visited the location and can specifically identify one or more of a set of users using a facepile. The set of specifically identified users can be those users that have an associative link with the viewer and that are also associated with at least one location signal for the given location and for which the particular viewer is a permitted viewer. Thus, location signals having varying scopes of visibility information can be aggregated across a plurality of different web-services to provide a single, unified visitor history for a particular location and viewer, all while respecting user-specified visibility information.

Systems and methods for generating a viewer-specific visitor history for a location

Computers and methods are provided for receiving a search request sent by a computer associated with a user. A set of documents comprising a plurality of documents that satisfy the search request is identified. At least some documents in the plurality of documents have previously been annotated by at least one user of a plurality of users. A response to the search request is sent. The response includes a ranked set of links to at least some of the plurality of documents that satisfy the search request. At least some of the links are to documents that have previously been annotated by at least one user of the plurality of users. The response is associated with instructions to display one or more corresponding annotations for at least some of the links to documents that have previously been annotated by at least one user of the plurality of users. The response is further associated with instructions to display a filter selector including one or more filter options to reduce the identified set of documents.

The disclosure includes a system and method for calculating social ranking scores for websites. The system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the system to: process user interaction data describing user social activities associated with a website; classify the user social activities based on a plurality of social activity types associated with the user social activities, the plurality of social activity types including one or more characteristics describing the user social activities; determine candidate user social activities based on the classified user social activities, the candidate user social activities configured to calculate a social ranking score for the website; and calculate the social ranking score for the website based on the candidate user social activities, the social ranking score indicating a social ranking for the website.

Efficient indexing and searching of access control listed documents

The subject technology discloses configurations for providing comments restricted to a set of users for web content on a web page. In one implementation, a widget is provided that enables a content provider or a user to provide comments restricted to the set of users in a manner that does not disrupt an existing implementation or presentation of publicly viewable web content that already provides public comments from visitors of the web site. In particular, the widget may be provided as a plugin or extension in the user's web browser, or be integrated in the web page by the content provider. The scope of the comments restricted to the set of users are defined by one or more access control lists, which allow the comments restricted to the set of users to be only viewable by a specified set of users (and not viewable by other users).

A system and method is disclosed for providing information regarding posts on social networking sites. The system receives, using one or more computing devices, an identifier for a content item to post in a message of a user on a social networking site, where the identifier is received before a request to post the message. The system also identifies, using the one or more computing devices and based on the received identifier, one or more messages including the content item previously posted on the social networking site. The system also provides for display to the user, using the one or more computing devices, information about the one or more messages including the content item previously posted on the social networking site to the user, where the information is provided for display before the request to post the message is received.

Systems and methods for modifying a webpage display based on a referrer web address are provided. In some aspects, a method includes receiving a request for a webpage. The request includes one or more referrer web addresses. The webpage includes multiple comments. The method also includes modifying a representation of an output for the webpage based on the one or more referrer web addresses. Modifying the representation of the output for the webpage includes arranging at least a subset of the multiple comments according to an order based on the one or more referrer web addresses. The method also includes providing the modified representation of the output for the webpage for generating a display on a client computing device.
