A method of function prioritization in a multi-channel voice-datalink radio is provided. The method comprises suspending transmission of one or more data messages on a communication channel when transmission of a voice message is active on the communication channel, buffering the one or more data messages while the transmission of the voice message is active, and resuming transmission of the buffered one or more data messages on the communication channel when the transmission of the voice message ends.

Function prioritization in a multi-channel, voice-datalink radio

A wideband multi-channel receiver comprises an antenna configured to receive a radio frequency band. A band-pass filter is in signal communication with the antenna, and a low-noise amplifier is in signal communication with the band-pass filter. A mixer is in signal communication with the low-noise amplifier and is configured to translate a radio frequency band to an intermediate frequency (IF) band. A tunable local oscillator is in signal communication with the mixer. At least one fixed-frequency notch filter is in signal communication with the mixer, with the notch filter configured to reject at least one interference signal in the IF band while passing remaining signals in the IF band. An analog-to-digital converter is in signal communication with the notch filter and is configured to convert the remaining signals in the IF band to digital signals.

Wideband multi-channel receiver with fixed-frequency notch filter for interference rejection

A wideband multi-channel receiver comprises an antenna configured to receive a radio frequency band comprising an aviation VHF communication band, an aviation VHF navigation band, an aviation L-band, or combinations thereof. A band-pass filter is in signal communication with the antenna, and a low-noise amplifier is in signal communication with the band-pass filter. A mixer is in signal communication with the low-noise amplifier and is configured to translate a radio frequency band to an intermediate frequency (IF) band. A tunable local oscillator is in signal communication with the mixer. At least one fixed-frequency notch filter is in signal communication with the mixer, with the notch filter configured to reject at least one interference signal in the IF band while passing remaining signals in the IF band. An analog-to-digital converter is in signal communication with the notch filter and is configured to convert the remaining signals in the IF band to digital signals. A digital processing system is in signal communication with the analog-to-digital converter.

A system and method for determining a received signal frequency by sampling the received signal at a rate less than twice a predefined nyquist rate. The system includes a distorting component configured to distort the received signal in a frequency dependent manner, at least one analog to digital converter configured to sample the received signal and the distorted signal at a rate less than twice a predefined nyquist rate, and a processing component configured to determine a frequency of the received signal based on the sampled received signal and the sampled distorted signal. The method includes distorting the received signal, sampling the received signal and the distorted signal at a rate less than twice a predefined nyquist rate, and determining a frequency of the received signal. In an embodiment, distorting includes at least one of distorting an amplitude or a group delay of the received signal.

Methods and systems for determining a received signal frequency

A reconfigurable radio communications system is disclosed. The system comprises a digital data bus, a control bus, and first and second reconfigurable radio communication units responsive to the digital data bus and the control bus. Each of the first and second reconfigurable radio communication units further include a first and a second multifunction radio transceiver, with the first reconfigurable radio communication unit responsive to at least a first antenna, and the second reconfigurable radio communication unit responsive to at least a second antenna. Each of the first and the second multifunction radio transceivers of the first and the second reconfigurable radio communication units are operable to simultaneously transmit and receive data on at least two separate channels from different frequency bands. Within the system, one of the multifunction radio transceivers is automatically reconfigurable to maintain radio communication functions previously performed by a faulted multifunction radio transceiver.

Methods and systems for signal analysis in multiple radio carrier environments are provided. In one embodiment, a radio receiver comprises: an adaptive pass band filter that operates over a pass band of frequencies, the adaptive pass band filter subdividing the pass band into a plurality of sub-channels each comprising a narrower bandwidth than the pass band; and a signal analyzer receiving the plurality of sub-channels, the signal analyzer providing feedback to the adaptive pass band filter, wherein the adaptive pass band filter divides the pass band into the plurality of sub-channels based on the feedback; wherein the signal analyzer selectively generates an output comprising of at least one of the plurality of sub-channels.

Systems and methods for receiving and processing multiple carrier communications and navigation signals

Systems and methods for detecting a signal across multiple Nyquist bands. The systems include an analog to digital converter (ADC), a clock signal generator configured to output a sample clock signal to the ADC, and a processor configured to process sampled signals and control the clock signal generator. The processor is configured to iteratively identify a desired signal, determine whether a possible interfering signal exists at a next sampling rate, and instruct the clock signal generator to generate the next sampling rate if the processor determines that a possible interfering signal does not exist. The methods include sampling an input signal at a first sampling rate, processing the sampled signal to extract information from a desired signal, determining whether a possible interfering signal exists at a next sampling rate, and sampling at the next sampling rate if it is determined that a possible interfering signal does not exist.

Systems and methods for detecting a signal across multiple Nyquist bands

Described herein are methods and apparatuses for receiving a desired signal at a signal receiver with an undersampling frequency. A signal converter with a local oscillator frequency, a bandpass filter, and an analog-to-digital converter are used to generate an aliased discrete-time spectrum from an input analog spectrum. In order to determine the presence of interfering signals in the aliased discrete-time spectrum and, if present, separate a desired signal from the interfering signal, the local oscillator frequency is shifted. The original discrete-time spectrum and the resulting shifted discrete-time spectrum are both analyzed to select a local oscillator frequency that does not cause interference with the desired signal when the discrete-time spectrum is generated. The selected local oscillator frequency is then utilized to process the desired signal.

Method for discerning a desired signal from an interfering signal in an under sampled system

A transceiver apparatus comprising a software-definable-radio-transceiver architecture. The transceiver apparatus comprises at least one up-conversion path including at least one configurable micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) transmit filter communicatively coupled to transmit output from a digital-to-analog converter to an antenna, and at least one down-conversion path including at least one configurable-MEMS-receive filter communicatively coupled to transmit signals received from the antenna to an analog-to-digital converter. The at least one configurable-MEMS-transmit filter prevents interference on the up-conversion path from signals transmitted from the antenna. The at least one configurable-MEMS-receive filter prevents interference on the down-conversion path from signals transmitted to the antenna. A plurality of upconversion and downconversion paths can operate simultaneously and on different channel frequencies.

Software-definable radio transceiver with MEMS filters

A method of providing audio transmissions from an electronic device having internal audio multiplexing is disclosed. The method comprises combining a plurality of received audio input signals for output as a first mode of operation for the electronic device, where the electronic device is configured to output the plurality of audio input signals on at least one audio channel. When a priority audio signal is detected from one of the received audio input signals in the first mode of operation, the method interrupts playback of the remaining audio input signals with the priority audio signal as a second mode of operation for the electronic device and transfers, within the electronic device, the priority audio signal to the at least one audio channel once the priority audio signal is detected.

Internal audio multiplexing system for multi-channel radios

A method implementable in an audio receiver having an input for receiving broadcast signals including a set of channels and a squelching controller includes converting the signals associated with each channel into respective digital signals, and tuning the digital signals associated with a first subset of the channels. For each channel of the first channel subset, a respective set of amplitudes associated with respective frequencies of the associated digital signal is determined. A random-noise-level value associated with each channel of the first channel subset is determined from each set of the signal amplitudes. If a signal amplitude associated with a first channel of the first channel subset exceeds the random-noise-level of the first channel, a second subset of the channels of the set is tuned. Otherwise, the random-noise-levels are provided to the squelching controller.

A method to receive channels in an undersampled broadband receiver is provided. The method includes converting received radio frequency signals to downshifted-sampled-digital signals at an analog-to-digital converter in a sampling system, outputting the downshifted-sampled-digital signals to a digital system for digital processing, and determining if the unique identifying code associated with a desired channel is detectable. Each channel in the radio frequency signal has an assigned unique identifying code. When the unique identifying code is detectable, the method includes detecting the unique identifying code associated with the desired channel. When the unique identifying code is undetectable, the method includes outputting control signals from the digital system to tune an adjustable sample clock in the sampling system and tuning the adjustable sample clock based on the output control signals.

Method and system for receiving distance measurement equipment channels in an undersampled broadband receiver

An audio system may comprise a transceiver configured to receive, detect, and transmit audio signals on a first channel frequency and to receive and detect audio signals on at least one additional channel frequency. The at least one additional channel frequency may include a second channel frequency. The system may include a controller configured to output a first audio cue while outputting audio signals received from the at least one additional channel frequency, to output a second audio cue at a time when the controller begins outputting an audio signal received from the first channel frequency, and to output a third audio cue at a time when the controller begins outputting an audio signal received from the second channel frequency. The first, second, and third audio cues may be different from one another.

The receiver section includes a digital downconverter configured to digitally downconvert radio signals sent from one or more of the multiple radio systems and a digital signal processor coupled to the digital downconverter for processing the downconverted signals. A transmitter section is coupled to the transmit/receive switch and configured to generate a transmission signal for reception by one or more of the multiple radio systems.
