A transfer switch enclosure is provided for housing a transfer switch that selectively connects a load to either a utility electrical grid or a stand-by electrical generator. The utility connection includes a first switch selectively connecting utility power to a load. The transfer switch selectively connects the load to either the utility power or a secondary power source. The housing includes a divider panel, providing two separate chambers in the housing. The utility connection is mounted in one of the chambers and the transfer switch is mounted in the other of the chambers. The divider panel includes an opening to permit a pair of electrical conductors to pass therethrough for connecting the utility switch to the transfer switch. The housing further includes two door panels, each door panel covering one of the two chambers. Each door panel is independently operable and securable, controlling access to each of the two chambers.

Transfer switch enclosure

A transfer switch is provided for transferring the supply of electrical power to a load between a utility source and a generator that generates electrical power when started. The load is interconnected to the utility source through a first circuit breaker and to the generator through a second circuit breaker. Each circuit breaker is movable between an on position and an off position. The transfer switch includes a first arm movable between a first position and a second position wherein the first arm is engageable with the first circuit breaker for moving the first circuit breaker from the off position to the on position. A second arm is movable between a first position and a second position engageable with the second circuit breaker for moving the second circuit breaker from the off position to the on position. A control structure selectively urges the first and second arms to the second positions.

Panel transfer switch

A relay is provided for a transfer mechanism which transfers power between a utility source and a stand-by electrical generator. The relay incorporates contacts formed from two distinct materials. A backing portion of each contact is formed from copper and a contacting portion is deposited on the backing portion. The contacting portion is formed from tungsten. The arrangement of the contact minimizes the potential for failure of the transfer mechanism when the transfer mechanism is exposed to significant current and/or heating during operation thereof.

Relay for a transfer mechanism which transfers power between a utility source and a stand-by generator

A transfer mechanism is provided for transferring the supply of power between a generator and utility source. The transfer mechanism includes a monitoring system for monitoring the power supplied by the utility source. The monitoring system starts the generator in response to a power outage from the utility source and stops the generator in response to the restoration of power from the utility source. A power relay has a utility input connectable to the utility source, a generator input connectable to the generator, an output connectable to a load, and a movable contact for selectively interconnecting one of the inputs to the output in response to the generation of power by the generator.
