A network interface for use within a distributed antenna system, the network interface including circuitry configured to: receive a downlink digital communication signal from an external device external to the distributed antenna system, wherein a reference clock is embedded in the downlink digital communication signal; generate a master reference clock for the distributed antenna system using the reference clock embedded in the downlink digital communication signal; convert the downlink digital communication signal into a downlink signal; communicate the downlink signal toward a remote antenna unit within the distributed antenna system; and wherein the distributed antenna system is configured to distribute the master reference clock to various components of the distributed antenna system to keep the various components of the distributed antenna system locked to a single clock, wherein the various components of the distributed antenna system include the remote antenna unit.

Master reference for base station network interface sourced from distributed antenna system

A distributed antenna system (DAS) includes: a base station network interface; and a remote antenna unit communicatively coupled to the first base station interface, the remote antenna unit including an antenna. The remote antenna unit configured to: receive a radio frequency band signal from a subscriber unit; convert the radio frequency band signal into a data stream; and communicate the data stream with the first base station network interface. The first base station network interface is configured to: convert the data stream or a signal derived from the data stream into a communication signal, wherein a mater reference clock is distributed between various components of the DAS to keep the various components of the DAS locked to a single clock; and communicate the communication signal and the master reference clock to an external device, the external device configured to lock its clock to the master reference clock.

Systems and methods for improved digital RF transport in a DAS are provided. In one embodiment, a transceiver comprises: a receive path circuit including an RF reception interface coupled to an ADC, the ADC receiving a down-converted analog RF spectrum from the RF reception interface and producing a digitized RF spectrum at an input sampling rate; a logic device receiving the digitized RF spectrum and producing a first set of baseband data samples at a first sampling rate, corresponding to a first spectral region of the analog RF spectrum and a second set of baseband data samples at a second sampling rate, corresponding to a second spectral region of the analog RF spectrum. The logic device maps the first set and second sets of baseband data samples to a respective first set and second set of timeslots of a serial data stream transport frame.

Systems and methods for improved digital RF transport in distributed antenna systems

A signal interface unit for interfacing uplink downstream signals from a downstream device with an upstream device includes at least one upstream interface configured to communicate a primary uplink upstream signal and at least one emulated-diversity uplink upstream signal to an upstream device; a downstream interface configured to receive an uplink downstream signal from a downstream device; wherein the signal interface unit is configured to convert the uplink downstream signal into the primary uplink upstream signal; wherein the signal interface unit is further configured to generate the at least one emulated-diversity uplink upstream signal from at least one of the primary uplink upstream signal and the uplink downstream signal.

In one embodiment, a method for providing Ethernet connectivity over a distributed antenna system comprises receiving internet protocol (IP) formatted data from an internet protocol device coupled to a remote unit of a distributed antenna system; sampling wireless radio frequency (RF) signals received at the remote unit to produce digitized RF samples; generating a serial data stream for output to a host unit of the distributed antenna system, the serial data stream further comprising a multiple-timeslot communication frame providing a first partition of bandwidth for transporting the digitized RF samples and a second partition of bandwidth for implementing an Ethernet pipe for transporting the IP formatted data.

Systems and methods for IP communication over a distributed antenna system transport

A distributed antenna system (DAS) includes: first base station network interface unit that receives first downlink signals from first external device and converts them into first downlink data stream; second base station network interface unit that receives second downlink signals from second external device and them into second downlink data stream; first remote antenna unit communicatively coupled to first base station network interface unit that receives at least one of first downlink data stream and first downlink signal derived from first downlink data stream. First remote antenna unit has first radio frequency converter configured to convert at least one of first downlink data stream and first downlink signal derived from first downlink data stream into first radio frequency band signal and first radio frequency antenna that transmits first radio frequency band signal to first subscriber unit. DAS is configured to transmit a master reference clock to the first external device.

In one embodiment, a method for reverse path summation for a distributed antenna system comprises: normalizing an uplink noise floor for a plurality of remote antenna units of a distributed antenna system, wherein the uplink noise floor is normalized based on a first remote antenna unit having a lowest noise floor of the plurality of remote antenna units; and scaling an uplink output gain of each of the plurality of remote antenna units by a scaling factor, wherein the scaling factor attenuates the uplink output gain based on a composite maximum host peak power for a host unit coupled to the plurality of remote antenna units.

In one embodiment, a radio head interface module comprises: a transmit buffer adapted to receive a data stream from a signal processing module and store the data stream as a page of data samples having a page header; a transmit engine; a digital upconverter, the transmit engine adapted to transfer the page of data samples from the transmit buffer to the digital upconverter; a configuration management unit adapted to receive reconfiguration information from the signal processing module, the reconfiguration information including at least one of air interface protocol parameters and bandwidth allocation information; and a memory adapted with digital upconverter parameters. The configuration management unit is accesses the memory to lookup associated digital upconverter parameters based on the reconfiguration information. The configuration management unit is further adapted to output the associated digital upconverter parameters to the digital up converter.

In one embodiment, a signal processing device within a distributed antenna system comprises a signal path within a signal processing board, the signal path having an uncompensated distortion function of G(&#x3c9;) with a system response represented by y(n); and a compensator coupled to the signal path, the compensator having a finite impulse response (FIR) filter with an impulse response function represented by H(&#x3c9;), the compensator having an FIR filter parameter vector {right arrow over (h)} determined from an estimated system response y(n) of the signal path to an input comb signal x(n), wherein y(n) is estimated from interpolated measured output responses of the signal path to a plurality of frequency sweep signal test inputs.

Method and apparatus for digitally equalizing a signal in a distributed antenna system

System and methods for muting a digital link in a distributed antenna system are provided. In one embodiment, a device for processing signals a distributed antenna system (DAS) is provided. The device comprises: a first signal path for transporting digital data signals; a controller for monitoring events affecting the first signal path; and a muting module coupled to the controller, wherein the muting module controls muting of a signal power of the first signal path as directed by the controller. The muting module applies a hard clamping to mute the signal power of the first signal path when the controller identifies an unplanned event. The muting module applies a ramp to mute the signal power of the first signal path when the controller identified a planned event.
