The present subject matter illustrates a zero-valent metal suspension in non-aqueous phase. The suspension comprises 41 wt. % of a plurality of zero-valent iron particles; 0.1 wt % of a surfactant; 36 wt. % of an oil; and 23 wt. % of a thickening agent.

Zero-valent metal suspension in non-aqueous phase for water remediation

A viscoelastic emulsion formed by combining at least one extended surfactant, a salt (e.g., brine), an oil, such as crude oil, diesel, kerosene, or a vegetable oil, and water, into a mixture comprising an oil-starved Winsor III microemulsion into which excess oil is dispersed. The viscoelastic emulsion may be combined with a proppant to form a fracking fluid. The viscoelastic emulsion may be used in various reservoir applications, such as hydraulic fracturing, or flooding for enhanced tertiary oil recovery, and in other applications such as, but not limited to, environmental remediation, or formation of consumer products.

The present subject matter illustrates a method for accelerated in-situ chemical reduction of subsoil matter. The method comprises supplying a mixture comprising ferrous sulfide into soil pathways to biologically react with dissolved contaminates in the groundwater. Further, an organic hydrogen donor is supplied into the soil-pathways to produce anerobic-conditions to cause indigenous anaerobic bacteria to biodegrade residual concentrations of the contaminates.

Stabilized carbon nanotube suspensions

System and method relates to measuring separation rate of water from water-in-crude oil emulsions at elevated temperature. The system includes an electrolytic interface (conductivity) cell comprising a plurality of capacitance/conductance probes disposed at different heights in a fluid stream disposed within the interface cell and an analyzer. Logic of the analyzer determines the separation rate based on signals received from the plurality of capacitance/conductance probes in the interface cell that are coupled to monitor the fluid stream. Methods for making and using the system are also disclosed.

A method of producing a carbon nanotube product comprising a catalytic particle and single-walled carbon nanotubes deposited thereon. The catalytic particles preferably contain at least one metal from Group VIII, including for example Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, and Pt, and at least one metal from Group VIb including for example Mo, W and Cr. The catalytic particle preferably further comprises a support material such as silica. The carbon nanotube product is preferably formed by exposing the catalytic particle to a carbon-containing gas at a temperature sufficient to form the single-walled nanotubes as a primary portion of a solid carbon product on the catalytic particles.

Method of making carbon nanotubes

A method for forming fibers/composite material having an anisotropic structure, comprising the steps of mixing an effective amount of fibers with a matrix material to form a deformable mixture containing less than about 96 weight percent of the fibers to about parts per billion of the fibers and wherein the fibers are randomly oriented in the deformable mixture. The deformable mixture can be extruded, stretched or otherwise deformed to form an extrudate. Pressure is applied about the extrudate to substantially compress the fibers in the extrudate to provide the fibers/composite material having an anisotropic structure.

A carbon nanotube product formed from a metallic catalytic particle and single-walled carbon nanotubes deposited thereon. The catalytic particles preferably contain at least one metal from Group VIII, including for example Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, and Pt, and at least one metal from Group VIb including for example Mo, W and Cr. The metallic catalytic particle preferably further comprises a support material such as silica. The carbon nanotube product is preferably formed by exposing the metallic catalytic particle to a carbon-containing gas at a temperature sufficient to form the single-walled nanotubes as a primary portion of a solid carbon product on the metallic catalytic particles.

A method of enhancing oxidation of air contaminants on an ultra-low density, UV light accessible aerogel photocatalyst is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a photocatalytic reactor system broadly comprising a photocatalytic reactor cell, a UV light source, and a pump to force the contaminated air stream through the photocatalytic reactor cell. The photocatalytic reactor cell includes glass cell. A catalyst bed formed of a titanium dioxide aerogel is provided in the glass cell whereby a high fraction of the titanium dioxide aerogel is accessible to UV light and gas. The catalyst bed is exposed to UV light from the UV light source and a contaminated air stream is introduced into the photocatalytic reactor cell such that the air stream passes through the catalyst bed causing oxidation of the contaminants of the air stream.

A method for producing carbon nanotubes by contacting a carbon containing gas with metallic catalytic particles. The catalytic particles contain at least one metal from Group VIII, including for example Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, and Pt, and at least one metal from Group VIb including for example Mo, W and Cr. The metal component may be deposited on a support. Preferably, a substantial percentage of the nanotubes formed are single-walled carbon nanotubes. Further, a method for determining catalyst composition and reaction conditions for optimizing production of single-walled carbon nanotubes is also disclosed.
