The invention is a nonlinear Raman optical device generating zig-zag radiation beam paths in a nonlinear medium having dichroic coatings reflecting at a pump radiation wavelength, with a first mirror between an injected beam of pump radiation and a first end of the nonlinear medium and a second mirror at a second end of the nonlinear medium, the second mirror being partially reflecting at a first Stokes wavelength of the pump radiation.

Nonlinear optical raman devices with zig-zag beam paths

The invention is an optical parametric oscillator or amplifier employing a zig-zag beam path, configured using dichroic mirrors or optical surfaces on the side-walls of a solid-state, liquid, or gaseous nonlinear medium, to control conversion efficiency, beam quality, or other aspects of the nonlinear conversion process by dumping unwanted radiation, the oscillator/amplifier for use with any nonlinear process in which it is advantageous to have one or more of interacting coherent beams be partially or fully transmitted at reflection points of the zig-zag path.

A laser including a solid state laser gain medium having a D-shaped cross section and an unstable resonator laser cavity including the solid state laser gain medium configured with a geometric magnification in a range of 1 to 5 under the intended operating conditions, including the effects of thermal lensing in the gain medium. An optical switching device in the unstable resonator laser cavity generates a pulse duration in the range of 0.05 to 100 nanoseconds. A diode-pump source is configured to inject pump light through the curved or barrel surface of the D-shaped gain medium.

Displays employing multimode optical fiber and low-speckle light sources

An apparatus comprising a laser and/or LED light source(s), multimode optical fiber(s), light coupler(s), an optional spatial light modulator(s), and an optional projection lens(es). Low-speckle light sources and displays employing multimode optical fiber

A laser amplifier includes a laser active slab with a source of pump power to amplify an input laser beam, the laser active slab including a block of laser active material having opposed lateral faces defining a wedge lateral dihedral angle, opposed longitudinal faces, and opposed parallel transverse faces, the wedge lateral dihedral angle specified to minimize parasitic amplified spontaneous emission. The source of pump power may be one or more laser diode bars and microlenses producing a gain sheet in the laser active slab. The lateral faces may include optical coatings highly transmitting at a wavelength of the pump power and highly reflecting at a lasing wavelength to provide a folded path for the input laser beam though the gain sheet. The laser amplifier may optionally include one or more external mirrors highly reflecting at the lasing wavelength positioned and oriented to provide one or more additional zig-zag passes through the gain sheet for the input laser beam and to provide a multi-pass-amplified laser beam.

High-gain diode-pumped laser amplifier

A laser amplifier includes a laser active slab with a source of pump power to amplify an input laser beam, the laser active slab including a block of laser active material having opposed lateral faces defining a wedge lateral dihedral angle specified to minimize parasitic amplified spontaneous emission. The laser amplifier may include one or more external mirrors highly reflecting at the lasing wavelength positioned and oriented to provide for zig-zag passes through the gain sheet for the input laser beam to yield a multi-pass-amplified laser beam. The source of pump power may be one or more laser diode bars and microlenses producing a gain sheet in the laser active slab.

A laser imaging system with reduced speckle is disclosed. The laser imaging system includes spatially superpositioned 1-D arrays or alternatively 2-D arrays of independent emitters of laser radiation, with each emitter having a spectral bandwidth &#x394;&#x3bb;centered at some arbitrary wavelength &#x3bb;. The elements of the array are allowed, by design, to have a slightly different central wavelength, thereby creating an ensemble bandwidth &#x394;&#x39b; which is much greater than the bandwidth &#x394;&#x3bb;of any individual emitter in the array. The resulting increased bandwidth reduces speckle in a displayed image.

Systems and methods for speckle reduction through bandwidth enhancement

A scope cleaning apparatus and method including a device containing a cleansing solution. An actuating mechanism is provided for passing the solution through flexible tubing coupled to a scope cleaning device. The scope cleaning device includes an elongate sleeve adapted for positioning over and in general coaxial and concentric alignment with the elongate body of the scope or as a parallel tube. The proximal end of the sleeve includes a coupler for detachably coupling to the scope adjacent the eye piece thereof, with the distal end of the sleeve having an aperture therein, with the length of the sleeve being sufficient for termination of the distal end in proximate relation to the lens of the scope. The coupler includes provision for attachment to the solution delivery tubing for enabling passage of the solution into a single fluid passage, which may be annular or parallel, defined between the scope body and the cleaner sleeve. The syringe is actuated through irrigation and aspiration cycles for passage of solution out of, and into, the annular fluid flow path, with the duration of the irrigation cycle preferably being greater than the aspiration cycle.
