The present invention is directed to a non-aqueous, base-degradable polyurethane. The polyurethane is prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a hydroxyl group containing hydrophilic composition. The hydrophilic composition must have specified amounts of ionic or acidic groups and specific amounts of polyester groups. In a preferred embodiment, the hydrophilic composition also contains polyoxyethylene groups.

Expandable non-sagging polyurethane compositions

The present invention relates to a low-viscosity two-component filled polyurethane adhesive comprising an organic polyisocyanate component and an isocyanate-reactive curative component. The curative component comprises a blend of relatively high equivalent weight isocyanate-reactive component and a relatively low equivalent weight chain extender or crosslinker, as well as certain diamines or triamines to impart sag resistance.

A two component urethane structural adhesive formulation was developed containing a multi-functional aromatic amine terminated polyether as part of the curative component. The adhesive of the present invention is prepared by mixing and reacting the following low viscosity components: Component A, a curative comprising a polyol and an aromatic amine terminated polyether containing two or more primary amine groups and having a molecular weight of from 250 to about 10,000 and Component B, comprising a polyisocyanate. The adhesive of the invention is characterized by its improved sag resistance, its heavy body which is obtained without resort to included fillers or to prepolymerization of the components and by the relatively low viscosity (under about 15,000 cps) of its components which permits easy bulk handling.

The present invention is related to a structural member comprising a laminate and an adhesive where said adhesive is the reaction product of (a) 100 parts by weight of at least one hydroxy functional material having a molecular weight of at least 300 and a hydroxy functionality of at least 2 which material is preferably selected from the group consisting of polyether polyols, polyester polyols, polyester amide polyols, and polycarbonate polyols, (b) 0.2 to 20 parts by weight of an aliphatic, aromatic and/or a cycloaliphatic diamine or triamine, and (c) an organic isocyanate in an amount sufficient to render the isocyanate index between about 70 and about 150, wherein said component (c) is not prereacted with any of the components (a) and (b).
