This method comprises the steps of running an inventory tool on each of the machines, and the tool presenting dialog displays on each of the machines, filling in or changing data in the dialogs presented by the tool, and submitting the collected information to a server. Also disclosed are a method, system and computer program for customizing an inventory data collection tool for a plurality of logical groups of users. Each of the logical groups of users is provided with a copy of the inventory data collection tool and with a first copy of a common control file. Each of the groups of users uses the first copy of the common control file to customize the tool for the group of users.

The present invention provides a vehicle for the exchange of data between a database and an independent spreadsheet. Specifically, the present invention may be used to import data from a database to a spreadsheet and/or to export data to a spreadsheet. To facilitate this exchange, one or more controls are entered into cells in the spreadsheet. The controls specify the manner in which the data is exchanged between the database and the spreadsheet. For example, a control may specify a data type, a formatting parameter, a source field, a destination field, and/or a formula for a designated cell in the spreadsheet. The controls are executed by a linker that links the data in the database and the data in the spreadsheet to effect the exchange of data between the two.

In particular, when conflicting data values are received from multiple sources for a data element, a conflict rule is used to determine the main data value for the data element, which is subsequently stored for use. The conflict rule can define any automatic, semi-automatic, or manual procedure for resolving the conflict. The conflict rule, or an identifier thereof, can be stored with each data value and the main data value for the data element.

A system is provided having: a scheduling system for scheduling a first import time, a second import time, a first export time and a second export time; an import system for obtaining a first spreadsheet from a first entity at the first import time, and for obtaining a second spreadsheet from a second entity at the second import time; a synchronization system for synchronizing the first spreadsheet and the second spreadsheet to obtain a first revised spreadsheet and a second revised spreadsheet; and an export system for providing the first revised spreadsheet to the first entity at the first export time, and for providing the second revised spreadsheet to the second entity at the second export time.

Under the present invention, a distribution list of message recipients within an organization undergoing the IT migration is generated by analyzing the infrastructure of the organization. Once the message recipients are known, they can be grouped into a set of mailing groups. Thereafter, specific message templates can be assigned to each group, and a schedule for sending messages to the message recipients can be set. Messages will then be generated and sent to the message recipients using the message templates assigned to their respective mailing group(s) and the schedule. Responses to the messages will be tracked and processed, and records associated with the message recipients will be updated based thereon. Follow-up messages containing additional questions and/or instructions can be generated and sent using any data that is contained in the responses. Also, 'non-responses' can be tracked so that reminder messages can be sent.

Under the present invention, an initial distribution list of electronic message recipients within an organization undergoing an IT migration is generated using a personnel directory of the organization and at least one selection criterion. Once initial electronic message recipients are known, messages will be generated and sent using information from a mailing database and a designated schedule. User records for each of the initial electronic message recipients will be created in an inventory database and will include user information from the personnel directory as well as message information. Based on responses to the initial electronic message, follow-up and final electronic messages can be sent to respective distribution lists, and corresponding information stored in the user records of the inventory database.

Method, system, and program product for managing communications pursuant to an information technology (IT) migration

A computer based technician terminal is connected to a vehicle being serviced using an assembly line data link (ALDL) connection from an on-board computer. The data link provides status information and fault codes. The technician is led through various procedures. During set up, the technician connects an ALDL cable from the terminal to the vehicle, the vehicle indentification number (VIN) is entered and vehicle options are identified. A fault detection procedure (FDP) in the terminal detects vehicle malfunctions by interrogating data received (via the ALDL) from the on-board computer. A fault analysis procedure (FAP), using the fault codes from a table as arguments, does a sequential compare against the contents of a fault analysis table containing fault codes. In a fault sequencing procedure (FSP), for each fault code passed by the FAP, there is a list containing the name(s) of one or more isolation procedures. A fault isolation procedure (FIP) is provided for electrical or electronic components on the vehicle to perform a complete test of the related part using a multifunction test probe. Fault repair procedures guide the technician through the proper steps to accomplish the repair, replacement or adjustment required.
