Systems and methods including detachable passive or interactive display that interface with fixed size portable communication or display device providing variable size display capability. Detachable display can comprise compartment for seamlessly accommodating portable communication or display device. Interface between the portable device and the detachable display can be implemented by wired or wireless communication. Detachable display can include weatherproof body, and compartment accommodating portable device can include weatherproof seal protecting the portable device. Detachable display device can include an additional user interface providing functionality of any complexity, from basic on/off and volume control switches to complex interactive menu navigation tools and other controls such as touch pads and biometric sensors. Detachable display device can include data input and output capabilities, such as text, audio and video, to other external devices.

Detachable display system

Systems and methods are provided including an implementation where a written new idea is reduced to a document, such as a patent application, which can be put through a secure hash algorithm to create a hash of the entire document, or at least a portion thereof. A time stamp is applied to the hash by posting the hash to a website and/or using time stamp hardware having an authentication capability.

Methodologies are provided for generating, organizing, storing and retrieving medical records using voice recognition in combination with unique codes assigned to data elements, and include microprocessor and memory, such as non-transient computer readable medium, having stored thereon a database including vocabulary terms. Methods include receiving spoken language via a speech recognition interface, and generating on a display an output according to vocabulary terms uniquely associated with the spoken language. Data stored in the database can include records organized into specific modules having specified vocabulary terms synced with each module and unique computer code to key vocabulary terms in the database. Using an associated unique code can cause specific data field to open on display when recognizing specific spoken word or phrase by the speech recognition interface.

An in-phase intracorneal lens system that prevents substantial movement between connected lenses to provide high resolution of the eye. A first lens is adapted to be positioned on a surface of a cornea. A second lens has a substantially ring-shaped configuration and is substantially concentric with the first lens. At least one first bridge member extends from the first lens to the second lens to couple the first lens to the second lens to prevent substantial movement between the first and second lenses.

The encoding mark uses a series of shapes as a guide, each of shape capable of being encoded with a finite number, including zero, of distinctive markings. The encoding of a predetermined identifier is performed by placing a predetermined number of distinctive markings substantially on the perimeter of at least one of the shapes in any spatial orientation with respect to each other on the series of shapes. The predetermined number of distinctive markings and the specific one of the shapes on which the distinctive mark is placed corresponds to a predetermined identifier. Since the shapes may only be a guide, they are not required to appear on the object marked with the encoding mark.

A method for correcting vision of an eye, including the steps of separating a portion of the cornea to form first and second internal surfaces in the cornea, and then placing at least one microscopic lens in between the first and second internal surfaces in the cornea, so that the external surface of the cornea is not substantially displaced. In a preferred embodiment, the microscopic lenses can be placed in concentric circles around the main optical axis so that the lenses form multifocal or bifocal vision.

Method for producing a multifocal corneal surface using intracorneal microscopic lenses

An IOL that is free of glare and the halo effect associated with conventional IOLs and a method for using the same is provided. The IOL is adapted for implantation into an eye, in place of or in addition to the natural lens of the eye, to adjust a refractive power of an eye. The IOL includes at least one lens portion and a light-absorbing material. The lens portion has first and second surfaces and a perimeter connecting the first and second surfaces which extends entirely about the lens portion. The first and second surfaces can have any suitable shape to provide the lens portion with a suitable refractive power. The light-absorbing material is disposed to absorb light propagating in a direction towards the perimeter to thus eliminate glare and the halo effect caused by such light. One or more haptics, which include a light absorbing material, can be attached to the lens portion for mounting the IOL in the eye. The light absorbing material of the haptics absorbs light impinging on the haptics to further eliminate glare and the halo effect. The lens portion may have at least one opening or hole cut in the lens for allowing aqueous fluid to pass from behind the iris through the lens and into the anterior chamber.

Glare-free intraocular lens and method for using the same

An IOL that is free of glare and the halo effect associated with conventional IOLs and a method for using the same is provided. The IOL is adapted for implantation into an eye, in place of or in addition to the natural lens of the eye, to adjust a refractive power of an eye. The IOL includes at least one lens portion and a light-absorbing material. The lens portion has first and second surfaces and a perimeter connecting the first and second surfaces which extends entirely about the lens portion. The first and second surfaces can have any suitable shape to provide the lens portion with a suitable refractive power. The light-absorbing material is disposed to absorb light propagating in a direction towards the perimeter to thus eliminate glare and the halo effect caused by such light. One or more haptics which include a light absorbing material can be attached to the lens portion for mounting the IOL in the eye. The light absorbing material of the haptics absorbs light impinging on the haptics to further eliminate glare and the halo effect.

A supplemental intraocular lens is provided for implantation in the eye to modify the lens system of the eye comprising the cornea and the natural lens or an intraocular lens already implanted in the eye, to create a modified lens system having teledioptic or other diffractive capabilities to correct for macular degeneration. To create the teledioptic lens system, the supplemental intraocular lens has substantially no refractive power except for a high minus lens portion at its center. The supplemental intraocular lens, when implanted on the natural or previously implanted artificial lens in the eye and used without an external lens, allows light rays entering the eye onto the retina of the eye as they would without the supplemental intraocular lens, thus providing unmagnified and peripherally unrestricted vision. When a spectacle lens is placed in front of the cornea, the spectacle lens, cornea, natural or intraocular lens and supplemental intraocular lens provide the eye with magnified and restricted peripheral vision. To create a lens system having other diffractive capabilities, a light diffractive supplemental intraocular lens, such as a prism-shaped intraocular lens, having no refractive power is implanted in the eye. The prism-shaped supplemental intraocular lens, the natural lens or artificial lens already implanted in the eye, and the cornea of the eye create a lens system which redirects the light rays entering the eye onto a portion of the retina away from the macula to create an image unaffected by macula degeneration.

Lens conversion system for teledioptic or difractive configurations

An apparatus and method for delivering radiant energy beams onto an area of a cornea in a line focus to create a linear incisions. The radiant energy beams may be focused in a linear configuration onto the external surface of the cornea or onto intrastromal areas of the cornea of an eye to ablate the cornea in a radial slot, circumferential curved slot, or lenticular pattern, and thereby modify its curvature and refractive power. The apparatus includes an array of central reflectors and an assembly of peripheral reflectors. Each central reflector is associated with a respective peripheral reflector so that a beam reflected by the central reflector is intercepted by its associated peripheral reflector and is again reflected to precisely incise either external or internal areas of the cornea. Each peripheral reflector has a curved reflective surface to provide a line focus on the cornea, including both rectilinear and curvilinear line focus to create radial and circumferential curved incisions. In a modified embodiment, the assembly of peripheral reflectors and the array of central reflectors rotate to permit lathing of the cornea.
