A profile for a tool implementing a unified modeling language (UML) is described. The profile extends the UML to include decision management functionality. The profile includes stereotypes and customizations which generate question elements, decision elements, alternative elements, and the like. The association between the elements permits a design engineer to review previous decisions and the rationale behind the decisions. In particular, the one of alternative elements is associated with decision element by selected alternative relationship.

Embodiments of the inventive concepts disclosed herein are directed to systems and methods for using field-loadable input/output (I/O) tables. An avionics hardware unit may include one or more processors. An operational software of the avionics hardware unit may perform a plurality of operations for processing avionics data in safety or data-integrity driven applications. An I/O table may be loaded onto the avionics hardware. The I/O table may be selected from a plurality of I/O tables loadable onto the avionics hardware for operation with the operational software. The selected I/O table may include a configuration of rules. The rules may be assigned according to the configuration to each of the plurality of operations to configure the behavior of the respective operations for processing the avionics data. The configuration may be different from that of others of the plurality of I/O tables in configuring the plurality of operations of the operational software.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) only Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) for Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 aircraft which utilizes Engine Alert Processors from a previously certified CRT EICAS and minimizes changes in hardware and software design by simultaneously generating both cathode ray tube (CRT) drive commands and LCD drive commands while only using the LCD drive commands for display of EICAS information during flight.
