A wireless power transmission system comprising a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power receiving device is configured to enter a cloak state when a temporary pause in power transfer is desired. The wireless power receiving device may allow or deny a communication data stream with the wireless power transmitting device during the cloak state. The wireless power receiving device may request a hot start power transfer phase with the wireless power transmitting device after the cloak state. The wireless power transmitting device may or revert (reset) to a default operating state in the event that a control error packet is received during the cloak state.

Wireless power transfer system, methods or devices

A device or an accessory may include a near-field communications antenna and a soft magnetic ring concentric with the near-field communications antenna. The device or accessory may further include at least one wireless power transfer coil concentric with the near-field communications antenna, a rectifier coupled to the at least one wireless power transfer coil, and a battery configured to receive a rectified voltage from the rectifier. The soft magnetic ring may be used to shunt magnetic flux from one or more nearby magnets in external electronic devices to prevent the magnets from repelling each other. The soft magnetic ring may be attracted to a magnet in an external device to help align wireless power transfer coils in the two mated devices.

A method for authentication for wireless power transfer which comprises: receiving an initial certificate signed using a private key associated with an intermediate certificate authority (CA) certificate; determining that the intermediate CA certificate is revoked; determining if a replacement certificate for the initial certificate exists; and if a replacement certificate for the initial certificate exists, trusting a wireless power transfer device associated with the initial certificate.

Wireless power transfer device authentication

A wireless power system has a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The devices in the wireless power system may communicate using in-band communication. The wireless power transmitting device may transmit data to the wireless power receiving device using frequency-shift keying (FSK) modulation. The wireless power receiving device may transmit data to the wireless power transmitting device using amplitude-shift keying (ASK) modulation. While transmitting data to the wireless power receiving device using FSK modulation, the wireless power transmitting device may monitor for ASK modulation from the wireless power receiving device. In response to detecting the ASK modulation from the wireless power receiving device, the wireless power transmitting device may abort the FSK data transmission and process the detected ASK modulation to receive data from the wireless power receiving device.

Communication between devices during wireless power transfer

A device or an accessory may include a near-field communications antenna and a soft magnetic ring concentric with the near-field communications antenna. The device or accessory may further include at least one wireless charging coil concentric with the near-field communications antenna, a rectifier coupled to the at least one wireless charging coil, and a battery configured to receive a rectified voltage from the rectifier. The soft magnetic ring may be used to shunt magnetic flux from one or more nearby magnets in external electronic devices to prevent the magnets from repelling each other. The soft magnetic ring may be attracted to a magnet in an external device to help align wireless charging coils in the two mated devices.

A wireless power transmission system comprising a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power receiving device is configured to regulate power drawn during a power transfer phase to maintain a substantially steady power level that is less than or equal to a power consumption level demanded by an associated load. The wireless power transmitting device is configured to determine the presence of a foreign object by monitoring the power transmitted or the power received and identifying a characteristic change in steady state power indicative of the presence of a foreign object.

Wireless power transfer control based on required and received power error

A wireless power receiving device has a receive coil that receives wireless power signals from a wireless power transmitting device and has a rectifier that produces direct-current power from the received wireless power signals. The receive coil of the wireless power receiving device is coupled to wireless transceiver circuitry. Similarly the transmit coil of the wireless power transmitting device is coupled to wireless transceiver circuitry. The wireless transceiver circuitry in the wireless power receiving device or transmitting may be configured to generate and/or modulate one or more data carrier waves using any desired modulation scheme. The one or more modulated data carrier waves are transmitted between the transmit coil and the receive coil of the corresponding wireless power transmitting and receiving devices. The one or more data carrier waves may have a frequency that is different than the power transmission frequency.

Wireless power system with in-band communication

An inductive power transmitter comprising a transmission circuit having a coil, the transmission circuit tuned, adapted or optimised at or about a first frequency for inductive power transfer or object detection; an inverter operable to drive the transmission circuit at the first frequency; and a controller arranged to control the inverter to drive the transmission circuit at a second higher frequency, and to modulate a signal at the second higher frequency according to a predetermined handshake signal in order to generate a response from a predetermined non-authorised device proximate the coil.
