A method of treating an elongate wood member is provided, the wood member having an outer surface and a cross-section. The method includes (1) forming a plurality of holes into the outer surface of the wood member; (2) introducing a treatment composition which includes a boron-containing compound into the plurality of holes; and (3) steam treating the wood member for a duration of from about 15 minutes to about 24 hours, the steam having a temperature of from about 80&#xb0; C. to about 150&#xb0; C. The steam treatment causes the boron-containing compound to diffuse from the formed holes into the cross-section of the wood member.

Method of treating wood

The present disclosure is directed to a physical and chemical formulation designed to be attractive to, and eaten by, terrestrial mollusks, specifically slugs and snails. Optionally, the formulation is also attractive to and toxic to insects. Upon being eaten and after a set delay, the invention is designed to kill such pests and in so doing remove them from the premises or environment treated.

The present disclosure provides a dual-action pest control formulation for controlling rodents and arthropods, the formulation including: a rodenticide; an insecticide; an optional attractant; and a carrier matrix. Dual-action pest control formulation and method

The present invention relates to materials and methods for protecting man-made structures made with non-wood materials from termite damage through the application of borates to the surface of non-wood materials. In an embodiment the invention regards a method for preventing termite tunneling and tubing on non-wood and/or non-cellulosic materials by treating non-wood building components comprising the steps of applying a composition to the surfaces of a non-wood building component, wherein the composition comprises a borate component. In another embodiment the invention regards a method for preventing termite damage to man-made structures comprising the steps of mixing borates with a solvent to form a borate solution, obtaining a non-wood building component, coating the non-wood building component with the borate solution, and incorporating the coated non-wood building component into a man-made structure. The invention also regards a non-wood building component comprising a non-wood substrate, and a coating comprising borates, wherein the coating is disposed on the surfaces of the non-wood substrate.

Termite tubing preventative for non-wood materials

The present disclosure provides a triple-action pest control formulation for controlling rodents, insects, and terrestrial mollusks, the formulation including: a first active ingredient which is a rodenticide; a second active ingredient which is both an insecticide and a molluscicide; an optional attractant; and a carrier matrix. The present disclosure also provides a method of controlling rodents, insects, and terrestrial mollusks by applying the triple action pest control formulation to a target area or supplying the formulation in a bait station.

An animal control system for use in a plant to facilitate management of the trapping of animals in the plant, the system including: a plurality of animal traps located at discrete locations of the plant, each trap including an animal sensor associated with the trap for detecting an animal trapped in the trap and a transceiver in electronic communication with the animal sensor, the transceiver having an identifier unique to the trap with which it is associated; and a computer system having a plurality of computers in communication with one another for receiving and reporting information relating to conditions of the traps. Animal control system

The specification discloses a borate microemulsion product. In one embodiment, the borate microemulsion includes from about 24 to about 32 weight percent emulsified sodium pentaborate; and from about 24 to about 32 weight percent particulate boric acid suspended therein. The microemulsion has a density of about 9.5 to about 10.5 pounds per gallon at about room temperature. In certain embodiments, the microemulsion has a viscosity of about 1200 to about 1520 at a temperature of from about 66&#xb0; F. to about 70&#xb0; F. In certain other embodiments, microemulsion has a viscosity of about 1000 to about 3000 at a temperature of from about 70&#xb0; F. to about 75&#xb0; F.

Borate micro emulsion and method for making the same

Preservative composition for lignocellulosic-based composites providing rapid and long-lasting protection against insect and fungal attack, in both low and high moisture environments, through the use of a combination of higher solubility and lower solubility borates. Pesticidal amounts of a lower solubility borate and a higher solubility borate are combined before or during their incorporation into a lignocellulosic-based composite. Useful low solubility borates include copper borate, zinc borate and barium metaborate. Useful high solubility borates include boric acid, boric oxide, ammonium borate and alkali metal borates such as sodium borate. Some alkaline earth metal borates, including calcium borates, calcium magnesium borates, magnesium borates and calcium sodium borates, are of intermediate solubility and may be used effectively as either a low soluble or high soluble borate depending on the combination used.

Mixed solubility borate preservative

Preservative composition for lignocellulosic-based composites providing rapid and long-lasting protection against insect and fungal attack, in both low and high moisture environments, through the use of a combination of higher solubility and lower solubility borates. Pesticidal amounts of a lower solubility borate and a higher solubility borate are combined before or during their incorporation into a lignocellulosic-based composite. Useful low solubility borates includes copper borate, zinc borate and barium metaborate. Useful high solubility borates includes boric acid, boric oxide, ammonium borate and alkali metal borates such as sodium borate. Some alkaline earth metal borates, including calcium borates, are of intermediate solubility and may be used effectively as either a low soluble or high soluble borate depending on the combination used.

Lignocellulosic-based woodfiber-plastic composite products containing a pesticidal amount of calcium borate is resistant to attack by wood destroying fungi and insects. The preferred calcium borates are the calcium polytriborates having a CaO:BOmolar ratio of about 2:3 and calcium hexaborates, having a CaO:BOratio of 1:3. Composites can be produced by combining the calcium borate with particles of the lignocellulosic material and the thermoplastic resin binder, and heating and extruding the resultant mixture through a die to form the composite product.

Lignocellulosic composites

This invention relates to a leach-resistant borate preservative for lignocellulosic-based products, providing resistance against insect and fungal attack for use in exterior and ground contact applications. The preservative compositions of this invention may be provided as a high strength liquid concentrate, suitable for transportation, storage and easy on-site dilution, or as a ready-to-use treatment solution. These wood preservative compositions include a borate preservative component and a co-biocidal metal fixative such as copper or zinc. The preservative compositions also contain volatile organic acid, free ammonia and ammonium salts to aid dissolution. Methods for the application of these preservative compositions to wood are also provided.

Wood preservative concentrate

Lignocellulosic-based composite products containing a pesticidal amount of calcium borate is resistant to attack by wood destroying fungi and insects. The preferred calcium borates are the calcium polytriborates having a CaO:B O molar ratio of about 2:3 and calcium hexaborates, having a CaO:B O ratio of 1:3. Composites can be produced by combining the calcium borate with particles of the lignocellulosic material and an adhesive resin, and forming the composite, generally with heat and pressure.
