The gas turbine engine includes: a turbomachine having a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section arranged in serial flow order, the compressor section having a high pressure compressor defining a high pressure compressor exit area (A) in square inches; wherein the gas turbine engine defines a redline exhaust gas temperature (EGT) in degrees Celsius, a total sea level static thrust output (Fn) in pounds, and a corrected specific thrust, wherein the corrected specific thrust is greater than or equal to 42 and less than or equal to 90, the corrected specific determined as follows: Fn×EGT/(A×1000).

An example system to control a surface in an aircraft engine comprises a first valve to vary a flow of cold fluid from a thermal transfer bus (TTB) to an active surface control (ASC) system based on an operating condition of the aircraft engine, the ASC system positioned adjacent to the surface, the first valve positioned upstream from the surface, and a second valve to vary a flow of hot fluid from the TTB to the ASC system based on the operating condition, the second valve positioned downstream from the surface.

An apparatus for an aircraft, the apparatus comprising a fuel heat exchange system, an anti-ice heat exchanger, a waste heat recovery heat exchanger, and a conduit coupled to the fuel heat exchange system, the anti-ice heat exchanger, and the waste heat recovery heat exchanger, the conduit including a first portion and a second portion distinct from the first portion, wherein the first portion of the conduit carries a first portion of a thermal transfer fluid from the waste heat recovery heat exchanger to the anti-ice heat exchanger in which the thermal transfer fluid supplies anti-ice heat to a portion of the aircraft, wherein the second portion of the conduit carries a second portion of the thermal transfer fluid from the waste heat recovery heat exchanger to the fuel heat exchange system.

Methods and apparatus for anti-ice heat supply from waste heat recovery systems

A gas turbine includes a turbomachine including a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section arranged in serial flow order. The compressor section includes a high pressure compressor defining a high pressure compressor exit area (A). The turbine section includes a low pressure turbine having at least a first stage of turbine rotor blades and a first stage of turbine stator vanes. The gas turbine engine defines a redline exhaust gas temperature (EGT), a total sea level static thrust output (Fn), an airfoil density (ρ) of one or both of the first stage of turbine rotor blades and the first stage of the turbine stator vanes, and a corrected specific thrust.

Aircraft engines and high temperature anti-ice systems for aircraft engines are disclosed herein. An example aircraft engine includes: a fan including a plurality of fan blades; a turbomachine operably coupled to the fan for driving the fan, the turbomachine including a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section; a supply duct to accept bleed air from the compressor section; and a heat exchange system to capture waste heat from the turbine section and convey the waste heat to the bleed air, the bleed air with the waste heat to be conveyed to at least one of an environmental control system or a wing of an aircraft.

High temperature anti-ice systems for aircraft engines

An airfoil assembly has a platform and an airfoil. The platform has an upstream edge, a downstream edge, and a surface extending between the upstream edge and the downstream edge. At least a portion of the surface extends circumferentially along a surface baseline defined by a constant radial distance from the rotational axis. The airfoil has an outer wall. The outer wall extends between a root and a tip, and between a leading edge and a trialing edge. The airfoil assembly includes a fence provided along the outer wall.

A turbine engine includes a spool with a compressor for providing a compressed air flow to a turbine, a shaft that connects the compressor and a turbine such that the compressor and the turbine rotate together, and a fuel supply. A combustor located downstream of the compressor receives and combusts the compressed air flow and the fuel supply, generating combustion gases. The combustion gases rotate the turbine, in turn rotating the spool. A balance piston for applying an axial force on the spool includes a rotating boundary portion and a fixed enclosure portion that does not rotate, defining a balance piston cavity. A water system provides water to the balance piston cavity, heat transfer from the balance piston to the water causes expansion of the water, the water in the balance piston cavity being balance piston fluid that is pressurized and applies an axial force to the spool.

A turbomachinery engine includes a fan assembly, a low-pressure turbine, and a gearbox. The fan assembly includes a plurality of fan blades. The low-pressure turbine includes four rotating stages. The low-pressure turbine includes an area ratio equal to the annular exit area of an aft-most rotating stage of the low-pressure turbine divided by the annular exit area of a forward-most rotating stage of the low-pressure turbine. In some instances, the area ratio is within a range of 2.0-5.1. Additionally (or alternatively) the low-pressure turbine includes an area-EGT ratio within a range of 1.05-1.6.

A turbine engine includes a high-pressure (HP) compressor and a bleed system. The HP compressor includes an HP compressor flowpath and a plurality of stages of HP compressor rotor blades and HP compressor stator vanes. The bleed system includes a plurality of bleed flowpaths including at least three bleed flowpaths in fluid communication with the HP compressor flowpath. The plurality of bleed flowpaths direct compressed air from the HP compressor flowpath. At least two of the bleed flowpaths are at successive stages of the plurality of stages.

A turbine engine includes a core having a fan section, a compressor section, combustion section, and turbine section in serial flow arrangement and defining an engine centerline. The turbine section has a set of turbine stages, having paired sets of non-rotating, circumferentially spaced vanes defining a respective nozzle, and rotating circumferentially spaced blades. A first stage turbine nozzle has a solidity that is a ratio of an axial chord length of the turbine vanes to the circumferential spacing between adjacent vanes.

The method includes directing compressed air through the high-pressure compressor flowpath, directing a first portion of the compressed air through the first bleed flowpath, the first portion of the compressed air having a first mass flow, directing a second portion of the compressed air through the second bleed flowpath, determining an altitude of the turbine engine, and changing the first mass flow of the first portion of the compressed air through the first bleed flowpath based on the altitude of the turbine engine.
