A hydraulic radial piston device includes a housing, a pintle having a pintle shaft, a rotor mounted on the pintle shaft and defining a plurality of cylinders, and a plurality of pistons displaceable in the cylinders. The radial piston device further includes a piston ring that provides an interface for the pistons. The radial piston device includes various configurations for improving the performance and efficiency of the device.

Hydraulic radial piston device

A method of supplying hydraulic power via a zonal hydraulic system to an aircraft having a plurality of operating phases includes determining a current operating phase of the aircraft and setting a power limit (e.g., a pressure set point and/or flow limitation) for at least one hydraulic power unit based on the current operating phase. The hydraulic system includes a plurality of hydraulic zones. Each of the hydraulic zones includes a local controller, a hydraulic power unit controlled by the local controller, and at least one actuator powered by the hydraulic power unit. Energy savings may be realized by altering the pressure set point for and/or limiting the flow to hydraulic systems in inactive and/or less active zones. The zonal hydraulic system may be reconfigured for safety based on sensed failures and/or during emergency or alternate power conditions with limited available power. Duty cycles for multiple electric motor driven pumps of the system may be balanced. Dependency on a central hydraulic system controller may be minimized or eliminated by providing default power limit (e.g., pressure setting) reversion logic at the local controller.

Supervisory control and monitoring logic for a zonal hydraulic system under normal and emergency power conditions

A hydraulic radial piston device is provided with a mechanism for reducing pressure pulsations and providing a smooth pressure transition throughout different displacement operations. In certain examples, the hydraulic radial piston device is configured to maintain an amount of precompression and an amount of decompression of hydraulic fluid trapped in a cylinder chamber to be consistent, respectively, throughout different displacement operations.

A radial piston device includes a housing and a pintle fixed thereto that includes an inlet and an outlet, each aligned with a pintle axis. A rotor is rotatably disposed around the pintle and includes radially oriented cylinders. A piston is axially displaceable in each cylinder and includes a head defining a spherical contact surface. A thrust ring is rotatably disposed within the housing about the rotor and is in contact with each piston, such that a rotation of the rotor rotates the thrust ring. An inner surface of the thrust ring defines a toroidal contact surface. A contact location between the spherical contact surface and the toroidal contact surface varies as the rotor rotates about the pintle. A drive shaft is engaged with the rotor, such that a rotation of the rotor rotates the drive shaft.

Hydraulic radial piston devices

Example fluid circuits (e.g., within aircrafts) include first and second pump assemblies. The first pump assembly has an electric motor and a first fluid pump. The first fluid pump is coupled to the electric motor and has a case drain port that is in fluid communication with a case drain region of the first fluid pump. The second pump assembly is powered by hydraulic pressure from the first fluid outlet of the first fluid pump and functions to augment flow through the case drain region of the first fluid pump.
