A cooking appliance having a ceramic-based cooktop and a plurality of gas cooking elements is provided with a grate locating assembly which includes a plurality of apertures formed at spaced locations in the cooktop, a plurality of spaced feet projecting downward from cooking vessel supporting grates, and a plurality of inserts. Each of the inserts is positioned within a respective one of the apertures in the cooktop and includes a central opening for receiving a respective grate foot in order to support the surface portion of the grate above the cooktop, while locating the feet of the grate at a position below an upper level of the cooktop.

An oven door includes a transparent zone defined by a window pack and an additional piece of glass arranged in front of the window pack. Specifically, the additional piece of glass is mounted at an angle to the panes of the window pack, with the angled glass diverging farther from the window pack at an upper section than at a lower section. Through mounting the angled piece of glass in the door as set forth above, a chimney effect is established for heat conducted through the door such that an attainable temperature at a front surface of the door is significantly reduced.

Oven door assembly

A cooking appliance includes a cooktop having a support frame, a ceramic-based mounted to the support frame, a gas orifice holder arranged below the support frame having a frusto-conical projection that extends through an opening in the cooktop, and a base member. The base member includes a frusto-conical receiving member that is designed to matingly engage with the frusto-conical projection to form a gas burner assembly. The frusto-conical projection centers the gas burner assembly within the cooktop opening thereby alleviating the need to provide a gasket or seal between the gas burner assembly and an upper surface of the cooktop.

A gas cooking appliance, having burner units mounted on an upper cooktop and an oven cavity arranged below the burner units, incorporates a fan for generating a flow of cooling air within the appliance, with the cooling air extending along an at least back and top wall portions of the oven cavity. The cooling air exits the appliance through a frontal gap formed between a door of the oven cavity and an upper frontal portion of the appliance. The burner units have associated combustion air inlets which are isolated from the flow of cooling air by being disposed in a chamber formed by sealing an isolation pan beneath the cooktop. The cooktop is formed with a plurality of openings for permitting a flow of combustion air to be drawn into the chamber for mixing with a regulated flow of combustion gas. With this arrangement, the gas burner units are isolated from the flow of cooling air within the appliance to enhance the operation of the burner units, particularly during low or simmer settings.
