Heat sealable food packaging films, methods for the production thereof, and food packages comprising heat sealable food packaging films are provided. The heat sealable food packaging film includes a humidity-dependent permeable film having a moisture vapor transmission rate that increases with an increase in relative humidity (RH). An outer coating comprises a coating material on at least one surface of the humidity-dependent permeable film. The coating material is selected from a nanoclay dispersed in a poly-vinylidene chloride (PVdC) polymer or a stretchable urethane polymer, a stretchable acrylic polymer, or a combination of stretchable urethane polymer and stretchable acrylic polymer. The coating material may further comprise an anti-blocking agent. The heat sealable food packaging film is biaxially oriented.

High barrier multilayer films are disclosed that incorporate a selectively permeable outer layer and a moisture barrier nanocomposite membrane. More particularly, insulation facing materials and insulation articles can incorporate an insulation facing material having a variable vapor barrier. The facing materials can include a moisture barrier membrane that incorporates a nanoclay.

These coloration effects can be designed to be either highly stable or dependent upon the switching effects of either temperature, integrated thermal exposure, moisture absorption, or exposure to actinic radiation. Articles employing materials with these coloration effects are described. Composition comprise a solid, light-transmitting matrix component having a non-liquid particle scattering colorant dispersed. Articles are produced wherein another solid second matrix component has an electronic transition colorant dispersed therein and the first and second compositions are disposed on one another, and optionally interpenetrate each other. Colored articles are produced in the form of fibers, films and molded articles.

Oxygen barrier films having a greatly improved dynamic coefficient of friction, and specifically, oxygen barrier films having an exceptionally low dynamic coefficient of friction, reduced moisture sensitivity and good oxygen barrier properties over a wide range of relative humidities. The low coefficient of friction is obtained by using film layers which are blends of a polyamide component and a high density polyethylene which surround an oxygen barrier layer, such as an ethylene vinyl alcohol layer.

The multilayered film comprises a nylon film having first and second surfaces; a silicone oil on the first surface of the nylon film; and a sealant film on the second surface of the nylon film, either directly or via an intermediate adhesive tie layer. An antifog composition is either contained within at least part of the sealant film or is coated on a surface of the sealant film opposite the nylon film. The silicone oil effectively blocks the migration of the antifog composition into the nylon film when the multilayered film is stored in roll form.

Lamination for specialty meat packaging

A multilayered packaging film having good antifog performance that is suitable for use in food packaging. The multilayered film comprises an outer film attached to an inner film, which outer film is a combination of a first nylon layer, an ethylene vinyl alcohol layer attached to a surface of the first nylon layer and a second nylon layer attached to the ethylene vinyl alcohol layer. The inner film is a combination of a third nylon layer having a silicone oil on a first surface of the third nylon layer, and a sealant film on a second surface of the third nylon layer, attached either directly or via an intermediate adhesive layer. An antifog composition is either contained within the sealant film or is coated on a surface of the sealant film opposite the third nylon layer. The silicone oil effectively blocks the migration of the antifog composition into an adjacent nylon layer when the multilayered film is stored in roll form.

Toughened biaxially oriented polyamide films prepared by dry blending i) a polyamide homopolymer, copolymer, or blends thereof; and ii) a functionalized polyolefin terpolymer comprising maleic anhydride, ethyl acrylate, and an olefin, to thereby form a dry mixture. The dry mixture is melted to form a polymer blend, which is then formed into a polymer film. The edges of the film are pinned to a casting roll, and the film is plasticized in at least one water bath. The polymer film is subsequently biaxially oriented. The result is a toughened biaxially oriented film which is resistant to pinholes, cracks, and other structural defects. Such films are particularly suited for making packaging materials for various food products.

The invention relates to high gas barrier packaging films exhibiting good shrinkage and containing an antifog composition for modified atmosphere packaging of foods and the like. The films are useful for producing modified atmosphere packages that preserve and enhance the shelf life of food and non-food oxygen sensitive items. The films exhibit excellent shrinkage, permanent antifog, easy processing and low cost of manufacture.
