A self-contained oral vibrator featuring an elastomeric band that is generally used as a sexual novelty apparatus. The apparatus is made of two basic parts. The first part, the integrated vibrator, is comprised of a motor used to cause vibration, a small battery power source and an external barrel. The second primary element of the apparatus is the elastomeric band itself. The band is designed to both fasten to the tongue during use and also house the vibration apparatus. The elastomeric band is essentially made of two parts; the first part, the bottom part, is a flat loop that wraps around the tongue during use while the second part, the top part, is designed as a barrelto hold in place the vibration barrel in place. The vibration barrel and band together form an integrated tongue vibrator absent the necessity for multiple parts to achieve the same end result.

An inflatable mattress comprises superposed lower, middle, and upper sheet layers. The lower and middle sheet layers are joined to each other in a manner to define an inflatable air chamber. The middle and upper sheet layers are secured to each other in a manner to define at least two independently inflatable mattress portions. Fluid passageways provide fluid communication between the air chamber and the inflatable mattress portions. A plurality of ventilation apertures are through the upper sheet layer for ventilating air from the inflatable mattress portions. The sheet layers are arranged such that air introduced into the inflatable air chamber flows through the fluid passageways into the inflatable mattress portions and then out through the ventilation apertures.

Disposable ventilating mattress and method of making same

An orthosis for providing abduction to a patient's legs comprises first and second leg engaging portions configured for operatively engaging first and second legs of the patient and at least one inflatable bladder generally between and operatively attached to the leg engaging portions. The bladder has at least one port for introducing fluid into and removing fluid from the bladder thereby to inflate and deflate the bladder. The bladder is positioned relative to the first and second leg engaging portions so that the bladder resists movement of the leg engaging portions toward each other when the bladder is inflated to maintain the first and second leg engaging portions spaced apart and thereby to maintain the legs of a patient wearing the orthosis spread apart.

Orthotic apparatus for providing abduction a pateint's legs

An ankle/foot orthosis for supporting a patient's ankle in a neutral orientation, including a calf section and a foot section pivotally coupled to the calf section to allow adjustment of a relative angle therebetween. A brace extends between the backsides of the foot and calf sections for maintaining the relative angle in a fixed position, and for allowing adjustment of the orthosis into one of several predetermined positions including an upright position, a fully reclined position, and one or more intermediate positions. The foot section includes a heel portion that maintains positive clearance with a patient's heel, which is an ulcer prominent area, and prevents inadvertent contact therewith, particularly when the orthosis is in the upright position. In the fully reclined position, the orthosis provides access to the patient's heel and sole regions, and elevates the patient's leg and foot above a supporting surface.

Pivotally adjustable self-supporting foot orthosis

Two pill crushing/dispensing cups are provided, with a base cup and a nesting cup being snap-fit together top-to-top which defines a cavity for storing a dosage of pills. By decoupling the cups with the base cup facing upward and inserting the nesting cup therein the pills are crushed/ground between a pair of opposing abraded surfaces. A flange on the exterior of the nesting cup limits the advance of nesting cups such that the opposing abraded surfaces do not mesh. The nesting cup is removed and a liquid is added to the base cup. The cups are again snap-fit together and shaken to facilitate complete suspension of the pill crushings. The cups are decoupled and the suspension is administered directly from either cup.

A bed system is provided which limits the inflation time of each of a plurality of ventilating air mattresses with the system to a predetermined time. Each mattress includes a fitting with a spring biased pin for actuating a pump switch when the mattress fitting is properly mated with a pump adapter thereby facilitating inflation of said mattress. The pump is programmed to deactivate at the predetermined time, and to remain deactive until the pump switch is reset. The pin is positioned and constructed to be mechanically rendered inoperable in the process of resetting the switch thereby preventing each mattress fitting from actuating the pump switch a second time.

An ankle/foot orthosis is provided including a generally 'L' shaped frame secured to a person's ankle region with Velcro.RTM. straps or tape. The frame includes an aperture located over the person's heel such that this ulcer prominent area is unobstructed by the frame. A cover, pivotally mounted to the frame, may be positioned over the aperture thereby protecting the heel from inadvertent contact. The cover may also be opened thereby providing access to the heel and enabling treatment of any ulcerous lesions on the heel while the frame is secured to the ankle region. The cover may also be latched with a cover latch in an over-center open position to thereby provide a support for elevating the foot above a supporting surface.

A modular air mattress including three separate pieces, one to support the head region, the middle abdomen region, and the lower leg region of a human body, respectively. The mattress pieces include a low air loss ventilating air mattress piece and conventional, non-ventilating mattress pieces. The ventilating mattress piece is positioned to support a body region susceptible to bed sores, while the conventional mattress pieces are positioned to support non-bed-sore susceptible body regions. Each piece has means for releasably coupling to each of the other pieces so that the ventilating air mattress piece and conventional mattress pieces may be conveniently positioned, and securely coupled, in any longitudinal series. The releasable coupling means also facilitates easy and convenient replacement and/or rearrangement of the mattress pieces.

Modular air mattress

Two pill crushing/dispensing cups are provided, each having an interior and an exterior abraded surface on the cup bottom. A pill is placed within a first of the cups and a second cup is nested within the first such that the pill is positioned between the first cup interior knurled surface and the second cup exterior knurled surface. The pill is crushed as the second cup is rotated and advanced within the first cup, a fluid is added to the first cup forming a fluid/pill crushing suspension therein, and the suspension is orally administered directly from the first cup. Both cups may be identical in design.

Combination pill crushing and dispensing cup

A ventilating air mattress includes a mattress cover having a down filled quilted upper portion overlying the upper surface of the mattress such that air escaping from the ventilating air mattress inflates the quilted portion. The differential air pressure drop across the upper and lower layers of the quilted portion of the mattress pad provides a pillowing or fluffing effect which increases the comfort for the user thereof. An air pump with remote control provides user adjustability of the firmness of the mattress. Alternate embodiments include a readily changeable mattress cover or sheet with quilting instead of the quilted mattress pad.

A pill crushing/dispensing device includes a plunger having a handle at one end and an abraded surface at the other, and a barrel/spoon unit which has an opposing abraded surface in its bottom interior so that a pill is crushed between the abraded surfaces as the plunger is advanced into the barrel. After the pill is crushed between the abraded surfaces, the plunger is removed and a fluid added to create a suspension of pill crushings which may then be orally administered by tipping the barrel/spoon unit to a generally horizontal position so that the fluid flows into the spoon unit which may then itself be inserted into a patient's mouth. In alternative embodiments, a central air passageway extends the length of the plunger unit to facilitate the flow of air to and from an air pocket between the abraded surfaces to facilitate the easy movement of the plunger within the closed barrel. A cap may be used to selectively seal the passageway. In an alternative construction, the plunger may be hollow to contain additional pills for later administration, and a cap provided to seal the hollow interior of the plunger and retain the pills therein.

Hand held combination pill crushing and dispensing device

A pill crushing syringe is disclosed which includes a barrel and a plunger, with abraded surfaces on each so that a pill placed in the barrel is crushed as the plunger advances within the barrel. The barrel has an aperture located near the closed end with a catheter connected around and extending from the aperture. The plunger has a sealing gland to provide an airtight seal with the barrel so that liquid may be drawn into the barrel through the aperture by withdrawing the plunger from the barrel to thereby suspend the crushed pill in the liquid, and the suspension may be flushed from the barrel by thereafter advancing the plunger into the barrel. In an alternative embodiment, a bi-level barrel has an aperture in spaced relation to the closed end forming a pocket wherein the crushed pill ingredients accumulate. The pocket at the closed end and the separation between the aperture and the barrel closed end helps prevent the medication from escaping the barrel via the catheter prior to aspiration. In still other embodiments, the syringe has a side entry plunger or two opposing plungers. In a further alternative embodiment, the aperture extends through the otherwise closed second barrel end and the catheter extends axially therefrom in better visual conformity with typical syringes. The abraded surfaces include radial protrusion patterns and a plug extending from the plunger prevents the abraded surfaces from meshing to thereby reduce packing of the pill particles between the abraded surfaces. The plug also blocks the catheter when the plunger is fully advanced into the barrel to prevent the medication from escaping via the catheter prior to aspiration.
