A cylinder head includes novel designs for undercuts, contours of the outer enclosure, coolant jackets, and other cavities within an outer enclosure of the cylinder head. The cylinder head design enables the reduction of weight of the head while maintaining structural integrity of the head, and improves control of temperatures in intake side and exhaust side zones of the heads to improve operational efficiency of the engine. A method is provided for additive manufacturing of the cylinder head including the disclosed designs.

A cylinder head [] mountable onto a cylinder block [] of an engine [] is disclosed. The cylinder head [] includes at least one fastener boss [] configured for receiving a fastener [], and the cylinder head [] is securely fastened onto the cylinder block [] of the engine [] by the fastener []. A boss cutout [] is formed on a lower portion of the at least one fastener boss [] that abuts the cylinder block [] such that a contact pressure balance of sealing pressures around the cylinder block [] is evenly distributed.

Rib configurations for increasing the structural efficiency of a cylinder head, which relates to a peak combustion pressure capability of the cylinder head. In addition to increasing peak combustion pressure, the rib configurations may also improve sealing of the cylinder head and may improve the durability of an associated cylinder head gasket.
