An optical fiber having both low macrobend loss and low microbend loss. The fiber has a first inner cladding region having an outer radius r&#x3e;8 microns and refractive index &#x394;and a second outer cladding region surrounding the inner cladding region having refractive index &#x394;, wherein &#x394;&#x3e;&#x394;&#x3e;&#x394;. The difference between &#x394;and &#x394;is greater than 0.002 percent. The fiber exhibits a 22 m cable cutoff less than or equal to 1260 nm, and r/ris greater or equal to 0.25.

Low bend loss optical fiber

An optical fiber comprising: (i) a multi-mode silica based glass core, said core having a 80-300 &#x3bc;m diameter and an index of refraction n; (ii) a cladding surrounding the core, said cladding having a thickness &#x2266;20 &#x3bc;m and index of refraction index of refraction n&#x3c;n, the cladding comprising (a) fluorine doped silica with relative index of refraction delta &#x3c;0, or (b) a polymer with relative index of refraction delta &#x3c;0; (iii) a protective coating, the protective coating having a Young's modulus greater than 700 MPa, a thickness &#x2266;15 &#x3bc;m, and an index of refraction index of refraction n&#x3e;n; and (iv) a permanent buffer.

Buffered large core fiber

Microstructured optical fiber for single-moded transmission of optical signals, the optical fiber including a core region and a cladding region, the cladding region including an annular hole-containing region that contains non-periodically disposed holes. The annular hole containing region is doped with at least one dopant selected from fluorine and chlorine. The optical fiber provides low bend loss as well as low heat-induced splice loss.

Bend insensitive fiber with reduced heat induced loss

An optical fiber adapted to carry optical power for powering an electrical device and also optionally adapted to carry optical data for signal processing. The optical fiber capable of carrying both optical data and optical power includes a central data waveguide region that carries data light and an annular power waveguide region concentrically surrounding the data waveguide region and adapted to carry relatively large amounts of optical power. A first annular isolation region between the data and power waveguide regions and that includes microstructures serves to optically isolate the waveguide regions. An outer annular isolation region serves to confine power light to the power waveguide region and contributes to the bend-resistance of the optical fiber. An optical power and optical data distribution system that utilizes the optical fiber is also described.

Optical fiber for optical power transmission

An optical fiber comprising: (i) a core; (ii) a cladding surrounding the core; wherein the cladding comprises a cladding ring that: (a) has a width W equal to or less than 10 microns; (b) includes at least 50 airlines, each airline having a maximum diameter or a maximum width of not more than 2 microns and more than 50% of said airlines have a length of more than 20 m; (c) has an air fill fraction of 0.1% to 10%, and (d) has an inner radius Rand an outer radius R, wherein 6 &#x3bc;m&#x2266;R&#x2266;14 &#x3bc;m, and 8 &#x3bc;m&#x2266;R&#x2266;14 &#x3bc;m; and (iii) an outer cladding surrounding said cladding ring.
